Another sign of reform and personal liberalization
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Both Sides are Willing.
In traditional Confucian teachings, marriages are arranged, and so are the friendships and business relationships. After the revolution, things had not changed much because due to the violent political turmoil, marriage and friendship had to be approved by the authority, such as during the Cultural Revolution. This movie is a pioneer in reform and personal liberalization in that it advocate people should have their own choices.
