Even during the reform in China in the 1980's, most Chinese war movies still could not escape the problem of portraying good guys as supermen and never die, or when wounded, live long enough to gave a big talk before dying, while the bad guys were instantly killed without able say a word.
This movie made a tiny progress in the Chinese war movie making in that good guys are not supermen and they die just like everybody else.
