2013 has been something of a vintage year for Brad Pitt – his troubled zombie thriller World War Z became a smash hit against all odds, and he co-produced Steve McQueen's critically acclaimed Oscar frontrunner 12 Years a Slave.

As the actor celebrates his 50th birthday, Digital Spy takes a look back over 10 key moments from his on-screen career.

Brad Pitt turns 50: 11 vintage pictures to celebrate

1. This Pringles advert from 1989

Because... wow. Pitt had a few early roles on the small screen – most notably in 21 Jump Street, Dallas and short-lived Fox high school drama Glory Days – but we feel 'Once You Pop', directed by Lawrence Bridges, really sums up the first era of his career. That era being "the eighties".

2. Thelma & Louise (1991)

This year's The Counsellor reunited Pitt with Ridley Scott, the director who gave him his first break on the big screen in 1991's iconic womance. After Billy Baldwin dropped »

Screen legend Peter O'Toole has passed away today aged 81 after battling a long illness, his agent has revealed. The star, who received an honorary Oscar in 2003, enjoyed a career that spanned seven decades and saw him receiving eight Academy Award nominations for Best Actor (making him the most-nominated actor never to win the Oscar), including that of adventurer T.E. Lawrence in David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia.

Born in 1932, O'Toole began his acting career treading the boards and made his TV debut in the 1950s before making the leap to the big screen with a small role in 1959's The Day They Robbed the Bank of England. R.I.P. Peter O'Toole

15 December 2013 11:28 AM, PST | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

Word has just reached us of the death of an acting legend, Peter O'Toole, who passed away at the Wellington Hospital in London after a long battle with illness. He was 81. He shot to fame in 1962 with the title role in David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia, a performance which earned him the first of his eight Oscar nominations (he sadly never won). This was the first highlight in an entire career of highlights on the stage and screen, and he counts a varied array of movies amongst his filmography, including Beckett, What's New Pussycat?, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Supergirl, The Last Emperor, and Troy. In recent years, he was seen in Stardust, Venus (which he yet again lost out on Oscar, this time Forest Whitaker in the Last King of Scotland), and his highly memorable role in Ratatouille, well for me at least, as food critic Anton Ego. His last two films, »

Peter O'Toole, star of 'Lawrence of Arabia,' dies at 81

15 December 2013 10:40 AM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Peter O’Toole, arguably the most strikingly charismatic, most eerily handsome, most preternaturally gifted actor of his acting generation, died Saturday at a London hospital at age 81.

O’Toole was part of the 1954 graduating class of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art along with Richard Burton, Albert Finney, and Alan Bates. After a supernova first decade — a 10-year run from 1958 to 1968 that included two stage Hamlets, two filmed Henry IIs, and an incandescent, career-defining title role in David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia — O’Toole let the momentum slip. Charlie's Farm Looks to Dethrone Horror Heavyweights

13 December 2013 3:25 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Few horror movie killers can rank among the top tier slaughter stars we've all come to love, but damn it, they try. Well, guess what, kids? Another is on his way, and one thing is certain: He has the girth to muscle in!

From the Charlie's Farm Facebook page:

Since the 1970's the world has been seen the rise of some of the most iconic killers, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface). Australia has had its fair share of Amazing horror films from Patrick, Lake Mungo, Snow Town, Razorback, The Loved Ones, and of course the legend himself "Greg McLean" with Wolf Creek and now Wolf Creek 2 to name only a few.

The problem is Australia has never had a killer with the status of the American killers; Voorhees has had over 160 kills in his career and is hands down one of the most feared killers on the planet. »

More star-driven movies go straight to DVD

10 November 2013 3:21 PM, PST | IF.com.au | See recent IF.com.au news »

Zac Efron, Gerard Butler, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Al Pacino and Eric Bana can all draw sizable audiences but you won.t see their most recent movies in Australian cinemas.

Nor will The Spirit of '45, a feature-length documentary by the highly respected English director Ken Loach, or Michael Kohlhaas, a 16th century adventure starring Mads Mikkelsen (A Royal Affair), play theatrically.

Distributors increasingly are opting to release films straight to home entertainment because it.s it tough to recoup theatrical release costs while DVD and Blu-ray sales continue to fall and since Foxtel Movies slashed the license fees for movies by 30%.

Efron is part of the ensemble cast of Parkland, which recounts the chaotic events in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Also starring are Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Jacki Weaver and Jackie Earle Haley.
