In Venice Beach, naive Midwesterner JB bonds with local slacker KG and they form the rock band Tenacious D. Setting out to become the world's greatest band is no easy feat, so they set out to steal what could be the answer to their prayers -- a magical guitar pick housed in a rock-and-roll museum some 300 miles away.
In 1933 New York, an overly ambitious movie producer coerces his cast and hired ship crew to travel to the mysterious Skull Island, where they encounter Kong, a giant ape who is immediately smitten with leading lady Ann Darrow.
Down and out rock star Dewey Finn gets fired from his band, and he faces a mountain of debts and depression. He takes a job as a 4th grade substitute teacher at an uptight private school where his attitude and hijinx have a powerful effect on his students. He also meets Zack, a 10-year-old guitar prodigy, who could help Dewey win a "battle of the bands" competition, which would solve his financial problems and put him back in the spotlight. Written by
During the class lectures, Dewey shows a slide-show that features a picture of the Ramones. In the end credits scene, Zack is wearing a Ramones t-shirt, showing how thoroughly he has changed from the beginning. See more »
When they get to the Battle of the Bands, he tells the woman, "We are competing. We are the School of Rock." With a Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney plot, this movie takes a terrific comic and musical turn and is a totally enjoyable, fun, and informative ride!
I liked that Jack Black always treated his students with positive reinforcement, which is really important if someone is ever to have the guts to go on stage. He was never down or discouraging unless it was a very funny down and
discouraging! And never about the students themselves.
I like Jack Black, I love this movie, and I love rock'n'roll above all else!
Forget the clichés. Let yourself have fun.
And stick it to the man!!!!!!
