This film was one in a series of Shorts made by FBO in 1927-28 based on the "Toots and Casper" comic strip created and drawn by cartoonist Jimmy Murphy. The strip ran for over 40 years, and is not far removed from the "Blondie" strip created by Chic Young many years after Murphy's King Features strip first saw print. Toots was a "dish" with brains, and Casper was a pint-sized drone of a husband with ideas that usually required him to be bailed out by Toots. They had an infant boy named "Buttercup", who was the centerpiece of attention in a great many of the Sunday strips, but wasn't that involved in the dailies. The characters were played by Thelma Hill and Bud Duncan in this series of films. Written by Les Adams <>

Toots and Casper Get a Divorce
12 June 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This is really fun comedy short based on the popular comic strip Toots and Casper. After a silly fight Toots (Thelma Hill) and Casper (Bud Duncan) end up in divorce court. All the men in the courtroom are enthralled by lovely Toots - even the Judge! Thelma Hill gives a delightful performance especially when she is telling stories her unhappy marriage. She really should have become a bigger star. Thelma was actually engaged to St. Elmo Boyce, the director of this film. You only get to see baby Buttercup briefly so I don't think the title really fits. I've seen a few other Toots and Casper shorts and this one is by far the funniest and the best in the series. It's available on DVD and can be found on You Tube so try to watch it.
