Robert Pattinson considered 'most wanted' celebrity of 2009

31 December 2009 10:28 AM, PST | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

While Robert Pattinson had certainly proven his prowess for screenacting prior to this year (with his work in films like Little Ashes, The Bad Mother's Handbook, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, and How To Be), in 2009 his name became an unavoidable one in popular culture due to his association with the Twilight series. In fact, he was chosen as the "Most Wanted" celebrity of the year by a research firm which specializes in celebrity information provision. According to their studies, Pattinson was the most sought-after celebrity of the year, topping a list of ten which also included Oprah Winfrey, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Barack Obama, Kate Gosselin, Selena Gomez, Tyler Perry, Angelina Jolie, and Ellen DeGeneres. While Pattinson's contact information should remain private, it is still interesting to see who people really want to talk to the most by this firm's standards. The resul »

Robert Pattinson Spending Post-Christmas Time With Sister

29 December 2009 9:50 PM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Having been busy filming several movies the last 12 months, Robert Pattinson decided to spend some quality time with his family. The Edward Cullen of "Twilight Saga" film series was snapped on Monday afternoon, December 28 enjoying a stroll alongside her older sister Lizzy in the countryside of London.

In the photos posted by Gossip Center, the British actor exposed his unkempt side during the outing as he was seen showing off his patchy beard. Donning a dark knit hat matched with a brown shirt, a blue jacket, and jeans, the 23-year-old apparently tried to do his best to avoid the waiting paparazzi. On the contrary, Lizzy remained calm when facing the shutterbugs.

Lizzy is Pattinson's sister who used to dress him as a girl and introduce him to others as Claudia until he was 12 years old. The Cedric Diggory of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" himself has told Life »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Seven

29 December 2009 7:16 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Mother and Child

Opens: 2010

Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington

Director: Rodrigo Garcia

Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.

Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.

The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

Movie franchises pay dividends at U.K. b.o.

22 December 2009 6:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

London -- A glance at the top 20 pictures in U.K. cinemas from 2000-09 confirms that for Hollywood and beyond, a successful franchise really is the golden goose laying the eggs.

Research released by the Film Distributors' Association Tuesday shows that 19 of the top 20 were established franchises or at least the initial goose laying one up.

The one exception is the No. 1 hit of the past nine years, "Mamma Mia!" with boxoffice receipts of £69.1 million ($110.7 million).

All six "Harry Potter" titles released to date feature in the list, alongside the two most recent James Bond outings ("Casino Royale," "Quantum of Solace") starring Daniel Craig and the screen debut of Bridget Jones, "Bridget Jones's Diary."

All installments of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy are ranked in the top five, while the first "Chronicles of Narnia" adventure, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," also appears in the top 20.

Robert Pattinson once tried out for role in sex film (IrishCentral)

20 December 2009 6:31 AM, PST | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

Life hasn’t always been as rosy for the “Twilight” sensation as it is right now. Just two years ago Robert Pattinson auditioned for a role in a seedy comedy called “Dogging: a Love Story,” according to British paper the Daily Star. And he didn’t even get the part. The movie is about a journalist who uncovers a community of fun-lovers in the North of England that like to have sex in cars, in full view of each other. The journalist character decides to investigate further and pursues the group in chat rooms and in reality – for professional purposes, understand – only to become more personally involved when he forms a relationship with a girl going by the name "Horny Geordie Lass.” The film’s tagline is the unsubtle question, “Fancy a ride?” “It’s all a bit surreal, to be honest," a source from the “Dogging” film set told the Daily Star. »

Georgia

Opens: 2010

Cast: Val Kilmer, Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Johnathon Schaech

Director: Renny Harlin

Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.

Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

Shot on-location in Tbilisi, the project also marks a potential return to form for Finnish director Renny Harlin. Given the right material the skilled action director delivered three »

New Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Footage

14 December 2009 10:46 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

At the beginning of last month we got our first look at the official trailer for the upcoming Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) directed video game adaptation, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It looked like a lot of fun, with some particularly striking visuals and special effects, all the while paying tribute to the great Ubisoft game that it’s based on.

And now we have some new footage from Prince of Persia, a teaser trailer of sorts that continues the same vibe we got from the first trailer, with maybe a little less of the jokey tone (I’ve heard complaints from folks about the dialogue being too silly and “on-liner-ish” -- which is a valid complaint, admittedly).

The “First Look” footage comes from the Spike TV 2009 Video Game Awards that were held recently, presented by the film’s star himself, Jake Gyllenhaal. »

57 million say Rob Pattinson is top star of 2009 (IrishCentral)

IMDb, the movie monitor and information website, has announced its top stars of 2009, and Robert Pattinson is number 1. Critics didn’t make the decision – the 57 million people that visit the site did, their clicks landing on Pattinson every time. Rob swoops to the top from position 33 last year. “The man once best known as doomed Cedric Diggory in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ rocketed into the stratosphere as moody-sexy vampire Edward Cullen in the ‘Twilight’ films,” IMDb remarked. Pattinson has “developed a fervent following of both fans and photographers who couldn't get enough of his sparkly skin, wayward hair, and magnetic screen presence. With the third Twilight film coming this summer, expect no downward turn in his popularity,” the website commentary added. At number 1, Pattinson steps into Johnny Depp’s shoes. Last year IMDb’s top four men were all men, with Depp at the top and just »
