Limbo clinic
7 April 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

We start with James Bolam (I first saw him in New Tricks which is much later than this!) waking up on the couch next to a lot of empty bottles of booze. He recollects bits and pieces of the night before...a dinner party where he managed to insult the couple that were there and later during a blackout manages to physically (plenty of emotional previously) abuse her. He emerges early on as a thoroughly unlikeable character.

Shortly thereafter they agree to meet later at a cottage they own. She is a journalist and goes to a afternoon luncheon...he goes to a bar and meets some girl he knew from before and proceeds to get blitzed. Clare (the wife) drives towards their cottage but gets violently ill and has an accident. She is picked up by a passing couple who transport her to a private clinic that happens to be nearby where she receives treatment and recovers. The clinic cannot get hold of Mark (the husband) because he is not yet at the cottage or at home...he's out at a bar. Anyhoo, he shows up the next day at the clinic to find she has discharged herself that morning...hmmmmmm.

Next we see Mark at a bar near the clinic/accident site and an older lady is at the bar in the morning and she looks sad/drunk. He gets a Bloody Mary to start his day and they briefly chat. He mentions the clinic and the old lady says something to the effect of 'yeah, I know the place. Your wife's not dead...just in limbo.' Mark tries to get more info out of her but she leaves quickly, leaving us wondering about that clinic and if his wife is perhaps still in there?!
