Freddy vs. Jason (2003) More at IMDbPro »
excellent must-see movie!(possible spoilers), 21 January 2004

Author: CalgarianSJB from washington state
*** This review may contain spoilers ***
now, i haven't been a freddy fan since the first one in '84 but he held his own against my man jason better than i thought, but over all, i'll give him his due, if for no other reason than to appease his fans out there(weird, but we all have hang-ups...lol)...however, jason ruled in this movie, and it was well-done as it could be...that is, up until the freddy-wink happened...at that point, the packed theater i was in at the time began to murmur things like, "alright, he aint dead yet!" and "yes! jason kicks a**! wait aminute, what was that about?" and " what an obvious load of crap!" and "part 2 coming up--here we go again!" it was disappointing for many of us because the theme "winner kills all" made many of us believe there was to be a clear-cut winner in this film and that our guy would win(whichever one that was for each individual) and the other would finally be taken off the screen for good...without the wink, we have jason as a clear winner, but no, now we have too many questions and hardly enough answers, so new line owes us a part 2 with a definitive winner(jason)...but other than that, this movie was excellent and i believe that kirzinger deserves alot more credit for his role as jason than he has gotten...the only thing they forgot was the famous jason-headcok...lol...i voted this a 10 out of 10 but for the unnecessary wink...great movie and a must see...hope it inspires more "versus movies of other horror icons too...
A typical slasher, but still a great movie for Freddy and Jason fans., 31 December 2003
Author: Leatherface33 from Hillsborough, NJ
This was actually a pretty cool movie. Unfortuantely, it wasn't scary,
it was just your typical slasher film. A group of teens that are
horrible actors, nudity, sex, drug use, and loads of splurting guts and
blood. Slashers are not exactly my favorite type of movie, but I am a
huge fan of "Nightmare on Elm Street," but not so much of "Friday the
Thirteenth." Jason and Freddy fans will surely like this movie, and I
was impressed with many of the scenes. There were some very cool
action-packed fights between the horror heroes, and this film was
decorated with some very, very cool computer generated effects. For a
slasher fan, I highly recommend this movie. As do I for any fans of
Freddy and Jason. As for me, I give it a 6 out of 10.
Saved the Genre, 21 December 2003

Author: John from Elm Street
This movie came just when i gave up hope for the entire genre... well, not quite, since Jeepers Creepers had me a little optimistic, and the Ring, while not great, was a good sign, but i thought this movie,F V J, would kill it.
Nope. This movie was WAY more than anyone expected it to be, myself included. I saw it on opening night in a crowd consisted of two types of people: Sex-depraved teens craving nudity, and horror fanatics. While I am a teen, it was the second group i belonged with- the group that was waiting for this movie to continue the stories of the two greatest slashers Hollywood's ever known- Freddy, who hadn't been on the screen since "New Nightmare", almost a decade ago, and Jason, who had Jason X, which was a terrible concept, but New Line pulled something out of its butt and made it acceptable.
Freddy, who's been neglected recently, although his last film, New Nightmare, was the last 1980's style horror movie made. Funny. It's also the 90's best horror movie. He's back for revenge, since he's been forgotten, so he's sorta P.O'd. He uses Jason to kill and strike terror into the hearts of Elm-Streeters, who have forgotten Freddy thanks to a drug called Hypnocil, and this Midwestern-town government conspiracy. Yes, i said Midwest, not Middle East(!). Hope I don't get arrested. I made a hint that criticized our government.
The plan works, and Osam... Freddy, I mean, has everyone afraid of him, so he comes back, but Jason gets a bit greedy with killing people. What a mama's boy.
But, yeah, from here, there involves this huge battle featuring some decent Freddy one-liners, though I prefer the "New Nightmare" Freddy, who's more business but uses the one-liners to get inside his victim's head- no, i don't mean physically, usually only his claw does that.
Anyway, this movie officially put Ronny Yu on my "Respected Directors" list. He's saved two horror movie series now. Child's Play DOES have a film currently in development, though I don't see anything about that one IMDB. See "Boogeymen", a great compilation, for the FYI on that.
I really think this is a good movie, the best in the "Jason Series", easily, since the first one doesn't really count as his movie. Does it? It's the third best in the "Freddy Series".
Oh, yes, before the "Grades", beware the first few minutes after the Freddy Monologue. I didn't time it, but I'd say it's about 15 minutes long. It's the worst stretch of time in Freddy history. I remember just laughing to myself in the theater. I believe I said "This sucks." while chuckling.
And one more note: When I was watching this, a group of teens, about 5-7 in number, enjoyed the nudity a lot. I recall one kid who said during EVERY kill or nudity shot "That's what I'M talking about." Actually, he only talked about what he was talking about. I wonder if most high-schoolers in America really are dumber than I am?

Freddy V.S. is the sh*t!, 20 December 2003

Author: jmcgee-1 from united states
Freddy V.S. Jason is the sh*t! An A++.Although i did hate alittle bit how the kids found out what freddy was doing so quickly, but a it's a movie. This flick has the best fight seen I've ever seen this year(terminator 3,comes to second or a tie). The color of the film made it comic book like, which kinda change the way you look at the other films. I mean it even feels like your reading something out of a comic book. I still Think Kane should have come back, but Kin played Jason with a diffent side of him. His killing reactions were way to fast, which made me jump a lot. Kane is still the best Jason, but I would love to see his killing movements more fast. And Robert, will you never could go wrong with Robert. Even the jokes(which ruined the series)made him look good. I mean think of Freddy from part 1 & 7,but with more jokes. And kelly did way better at acting, then Beyonce. And I love the way they ended it with how Jason X and Wes Craven's New Nightmare got strated. Can't wait till this come out on DVD. LOVED IT.
Story ok, main actress is a true beauty, 16 December 2003
Author: poem from Germany
Funny, I've already seen two movies of the main actress, and one of them is one of my absolute favorite ones (Strike!), but I didn't ever really noticed Monica Keena, even if she's in fact a true sight for sore eyes like Drew Barrymore, Brittany Murphy and Kate Winslet.
The move itself, well its a horror movie. The story is indeed good for such a kind of movie; neither do most people behave completely idiotic, as I've seen so often in horror movies (see my comment on Scream 3, for example), nor does the movie take itself too serious.
Compared to bloodbaths like "Kill Bill", this movie is still harmless. The fighting scenes are a little bit long, simply because the two movie monsters have a lot of problems to kill the other one (no I'm not going to tell you who wins and how).
The biggest shock here where not the slashing scenes, it where the nude ones. There is quite a lot of nudity in this picture, I couldn't believe it ! After all, its a movie from Hollywood, and they are very tolerant of violence, but not of all of sex.
So - amazingly beautiful main actress and a reasonable story, what could one ask more of a horror movie ?
It Is Cool And Different, 1 December 2003
Author: dire69 (dianeee@sympatico.ca) from Montreal, Canada
What can I say about this one except that it's cool and different and the way it ends, they probably will make another. I am a fan of the "friday the 13th" and "a nightmare on elm street" series but enough is enough.
How long will they drag these movies on for???
A Breath Of Old Air..., 30 November 2003

Author: mazeghoul
Being a fan of the series I thought this was going to be a horrible movie. I figured I'd go see it just to watch it turn into some modern day teen piece of garbage. I was gladly disappointed. Where all new horror movies need some pointless "twist" at the end, this was just a good old slasher flick. It held true to what made both Jason and Freddy great. I agree, there wasn't anything really new about it. Jason sticks to his whole "slow hulking monster" thing and Freddy still has his great sense of humor. But how often do you get to see two of the best killers go at it. I'd say anyone that is a true fan of either series will be pleased.
Freddy vs. Jason... Wow!, 29 November 2003

Author: Bobbywoodhogan from Leeds, England
I have waited for this film for years and now it is finally here. I went to the pictures to see this on it's opening night (August 15th 2003) and when I left I couldn't stop smiling I had just seen the greatest one on one face off in the history of cinema. I loved it this was brilliant, this was the Freddy vs. Jason (although I believe it should have been titled Jason vs. Freddy like originally planned) I had always wanted to see but it was brilliant, it had great storyline, great actors (note: Ken Kirzinger did play a GOOD Jason but like most other Friday fans I would have prefered to see Kane Hodder behind the mask, oh well!) But to sum up I loved this film and gave it a vote of 10!
I am looking forward to more versus movies in the future: Alien vs. Predator, Batman vs Superman, Freddy vs. Jason 2 (which I have heard Ken Kirzinger has already been signed to do) who will they pit against them I personally would like for it to be Leatherface (from the TCM Remake) or maybe Michael Myers or both. Now that would be cool. I also think Ash (Evil Dead) would be cool but he would have to be in FVJ3 'cause he would hav to win as he is the hero. Give me some sugar baby!
I'm Lovin' It
A battle between titans of terror, 29 November 2003
Author: Belle_Mondo from Paris, France
The film opposes Freddy Krueger vs Jason Voorhees as you could of guessed. Freddy needs to be feared again, if he wants to terrify the children of Elm Street. That is why he needs the help of serial killer Jason to do some damage in the neighborhood. But ones the job is done and Freddy has his strength back, Jason gets a bit to greedy in his slaughtering habits and spoils the fun for Freddy. So there is a battle in the air between those two icons of death. Let the mayhem begin.
Now I am a great fan of horror movies and especially of the three amigos Jason, Freddy and Michael Myers, but this film disappoints me a bit. It is not scary enough. The reason is that we are on TOO FAMILIAR TERRITORY. We practically know on every turn what is about to happen. We know the street, we know the people, we know the basement where Freddy found his death, hell, we know about the school vs police environment. Also the murders where a bit too easy. The first murder scene in the bedroom is so predicable that the makers just thought to do something neat with the bed. In general, the film got what he was intended to do. Score at the box-office and triple the budget in benefits. There was an interesting concept of fire against water, but it was not explored. And the opposition of the real world vs. the dream world was too trivial.
An utter travesty for both series, 21 November 2003
Author: Paul Conley from USA
This movie has been in development for over 10 years. 10 years, and this was as good as it got huh? This movie has been hyped, for 10 years also. True genre fans, and and die hard fans of both Freddy and Jason have waited for 10 years. And this was all we got.
This film was the typical laugh a minute comedy B.S. that Freddy has been ever since A Nightmare on Elm Street 3. I could never get into Freddy because he is funny, dumb, and annoying as opposed to scary. Jason on the other hand, usually is a mass murdering jugernaut that just keeps coming no matter what. Similar to the shark in Jaws, Jason is there to destroy everything in his path. He doesn't think, he just kills.
So rather than tamper with the excidingly helarious comedian...I mean frightening villian..Freddy Kruger, Ronny Yu tampers with Jason. The killer character becomes a whiny, pathetic mama's boy. And Ken Kerzinger's performance was simply horrid. While the Kerzinger Jason is most likely what Ronny Yu wanted, it is nothing like the character of Jason. Oh well what do I know. I've just been watching these movies for 20 years, un like Yu (Yu admitted to having never seen a Freddy or Jason film) The plot, makes no sense whatsoever. The methods for Jason being alive, and for Freddy being trapped in Hell, have no tie ins to the previous films at all. The teen characters are the same over used, rehashed, pot head, drunk, horny, idots we've seen slaughtered for 20 years. Hey, Yu! You want soemthing fresh ot the movie, don't change the Jason character, change all the idiot teen characters!
Probably the worst thing this film did, was take the usual Freddy comedy and multiply it. His one liners were worse than usual. I would consider Fredy vs. Jason the "feel good caomedy of the year" before I classify it as a horror film. I mean, look. The film had two of the most iconic movie monsters in film history, and there was not a scary moment in the movie, not one. How Yu could have screwed up a garunteed forumla for horror is beyond me.
This movie is total dog pooh and an insult to the fans, and creators of the origianl movies.
