Freddy vs. Jason (2003) More at IMDbPro »
Good Stuff, 19 August 2003
Author: Pablo Sawers from Scotland
What a film. They've only gone and pulled off the impossible. I remember hearing rumours a long time ago of their intentions to make this film and thinking what a bad idea it was.
Yes, there were some pretty cringe-worthy moments in it, notably Freddy Kruegar's script. But they've added some much needed humour to this film, and the battles between Jason and Freddy were worth the admission money alone (I aint usually that impressed with battle scenes). 8/10.

[CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!]
After waiting many centuries of anticipation, it is time for the final battle between two almighty figures. Jesus Christ vs. Satan? Hell no! Freddy Krueger vs. Jason Voorhees! Here's how it all started: Freddy Krueger has been dead for a considerable amount of time. The fear from Springwood teenagers that gives him his power is diminished because they no longer fear Freddy and have been taking dream suppressants. Freddy wants to restore their fear so he calls upon his "neighbor" in Hell, Jason Voorhees, who is slashing teens at a Crystal Lake setup. Freddy disguises himself as Jason's mother and told him to "wake up" and continue his killing spree in Springwood on Elm Street, so Jason did as his mother told him and resurrected from the dead. Meanwhile, on Elm Street at the Nightmare house, a group of teens: Laurie, Kia, and Gibb were having a get together. Suddenly, boys Trey and Blake soon showed up and Trey and Gibb got it on. Suddenly, Jason appears outside. While Gibb is in the shower, Jason enters the bedroom and brutally kills Trey. The police soon arrive. They believe it was Freddy Krueger but chose to keep a lid on it.
At the police station, Laurie sees Freddy in a nightmare; Blake sees Freddy too. He tries to kill him, but fails to because Freddy still wasn't powerful enough, but that was no difficulty for Jason who decapitated Blake's father then slashed up Blake; at a mental institution were the surviving original Springwood teens. They were locked up because now that Freddy was finally gone, they wanted to keep it that way. Two boys, Mark and Will, know it's Freddy and want to get out and warn their friends, but a stern orderly helped to complicate that. Mark wanted revenge because Freddy had killed his brother. That night, Will and Mark escape; Freddy continues to terrorize Laurie and her friends; Will and Mark finally make it to Springwood; that night, some teens throw a wild orgy in the middle of the corn fields. Gibb goes to have a smoke and falls asleep and confronts Freddy. Just has he is about to kill her, Jason arrives and impales her with his machete. Freddy becomes annoyed that Jason is killing *his* victims. Jason then emerges from the fields and being slashing as many teens as his machete would reach. Laurie, Kia, Will, Freberg and Lindman got away luckily. Freddy is soon powerful enough to kill so he goes and kills Mark.
Deputy Scott Stubbs soon joins the friends in figuring out how to stop the killer. He too was kept in the dark about Freddy. They soon learn about another dastardly killer, Jason Voorhees. He was the one doing the slashing! So now they weren't safe asleep or awake. They learned that water can hurt Jason because that's how he initially died: drown in 1957 at Camp Crystal Lake and fire could hurt Freddy because he was burned alive, so they jump in their van and first head to the institution to get the sleep suppressant drug. Freddy takes over Freberg's body and pours all the pills down the drain. He then kills Deputy Stubbs. Freddy and Jason then begin fighting in Hell while the teens take Jason's body to Crystal Lake. Laurie goes into the dream realm to bring back Freddy and she witnesses pour little Jason being picked on as a kid and how he drown in the lake. Freddy and Jason battle it out. Freddy proved very powerful. He threw Jason into the walls and crushed him with objects, but Jason managed to slash up Freddy pretty well. Soon Laurie successfully brings Freddy into the real world and he and Jason continue their large fight. Freddy just rips at Jason and Jason cuts off Freddy's arms, which soon grow back. Finally, Jason impales Freddy with his own severed arm and Laurie grabs Jason's machete and chops Freddy's head off! Laurie and Will leave in triumph. Freberg, Lindman and Kia weren't so lucky. The end...Or is it?
A pretty darn good slasher movie! Finally, Freddy and Jason go one on one! Can we expect more horror movie cross overs? Michael Myers vs. Chucky? Leatherface vs. Leprechaun? I hear they're doing a remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; Robert Englund returns as Freddy and this time, Ken Kirzinger dons the Jason hockey mask. He played one of Jason's victims in Friday the 13th Part VIII. Anyway, if you're going to see one horror flick this summer, I recommend Friday the 13th Part XI. I mean, A Nightmare on Elm Street 8. No, I mean, Freddy vs. Jason!! But brace yourself for scare tactics and blood and gore up the wazoo! I really liked it. It sure makes up for that stupid Jason X.

FANTASTIC, 19 August 2003

The movie opens with gratutious nudity, and only gets better from there.
A wonderful campy time.
High body count. AMAZINGLY AWFUL BAD ACTING. The worst dialogue I've ever heard.
It's just a gem.

What a great line from a very entertaining splatter flick. Two of horrors biggest icons duke it out. It just couldn't get any better than this.
Actually, going into the movie my expectations remained fairly low. The last two entries into each other's franchises were (well to be nice) below par. But the minute the New Line Cinema logo came onscreen and Freddy and Jason's music bellowed out. I just knew we all were in for a fun time.
This movie delivers every aspect of the horror genre: gore, blood, boobs, violence, humor and so much more. Till this point of the summer movie season had been a real downer, but this flick outright saved it for me.
I am generally tough on horror movies, but the bottom line on this one is: 8/10. Enjoy!!!
Hmm..not bad., 19 August 2003

Well, it won't win any awards whatsoever, but Freddy Vs. Jason was decent. The fight scenes are the parts of the movie that deliver the goods, and it has some a couple nice lines or two. The death scenes certainly aren't the most disgusting around, even if they're dosed in R-rated blood.
Overall, I give this 6.9.
I am the biggest Jason, Freddy fan you'll ever meet & i didn't see the big deal in this movie., 19 August 2003

Yes, the last 30 minutes were quite cool but all of the scenes before were mostly talking. I hate when horror movies have too much of a story & this one had too much. I like when it gets right into it & doesn't let go. You see, I thought JEEPERS CREEPERS was the best thing I've ever seen & everyone else hated it. It's all about the directing & the great images of the villians & this one just didn't do it for me until the end. I'm even one of the ones who's been waiting for this since 1993.
Fresh Breath in 2 - 20 Year Franchises, 19 August 2003

Freddy vs. Jason was exactly that - two film horror veterans some of us have grown up with, duking it out for the title of supreme villian. Make no mistake, this film had its cheesy and cliche moments but for those of us that grew up with the two franchise it was just like the good old days.
Jason was at his early 80's best doing what he does best - slicing and dicing his way through everything and everyone. Freddy played his victims, including Jason, like Hendrix played the guitar.
Some of the deaths and one liners may be construed as 'poor taste', and at times it may seem like that after 17 movies between the two the writers were reaching for new ways for the two super villains to disembowel their victims. Let those of us not forget Friday the 13th Part VII where Jason kills someone with a party kazoo and Freddy turning someone into a cockroach and stuffing them into a roach motel.
This is an entertaining movie that breaths new life into two of Hollywoods oldest horror franchises and delivers exactly what is expected: lots of unrealistic gore, hokey one-liners and good old fashion no-brainer fun.
A fun, scary, wild ride, and an instant classic!, 19 August 2003

Well, it's here. After a decade in the making, the ultimate battle between the screen's two most infamous serial killers has hit theaters... and it has far and away surpassed my expectations.
FREDDY VS. JASON is one of the best horror movies I've seen in years. With the possible exception of Wes Craven's original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, it represents the best entry in both the NIGHTMARE and FRIDAY THE 13TH series, and is a dream come true for any fan of the movies.
The basic story is ingenious. Paralyzed by parents' use of an experimental drug to keep their children from dreaming, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund, as terrific as ever), resurrects Jason Voorhees (Ken Kerzinger) to do his dirty work for him, long enough to spark fear in the town and give him the power to return to his reign of terror. Jason makes his way to Freddy's hometown and goes on the greatest killing spree of his career. And Freddy starts getting a little upset as Jason takes all the glory.
The two finally duke it out, first in Freddy's dream world, and later at Jason's old stomping ground, Crystal Lake. And it's a vicious battle. Jason has the brute strength, but Freddy has the brains. Not that he isn't capable of sending Jason sailing through the air a few times. But when Jason hits back he hits hard, and the movie leads up to as satisfying a final battle between the two as I could have hoped for.
I loved this movie! It was great fun, scary, intense and outlandishly gruesome. Ronny Yu directs with great pizzazz, without ever losing sight of the characters' grindhouse roots. Nice to see a slasher flick with some actual T&A, too. I'm not being sexist. Sex and nudity are part of the game. It took a lesson from the reigning champions of the genre for people to remember that. An instant classic.

Freddy vs. Jason is outstanding! But let's say this is for horror fans only! Anyone not familiar with the two series, those who don't like slasher films, those who are wimps, stay away! The rest of you enjoy because this film is loaded with gore, boobs, great fight scenes, and plenty of Freddy one-liners. Sure, the acting could be better. Sure there are parts of the film where characters sit around discussing what just happened. But what matters is that Jason and Freddy kill so many people in this film before attacking themselves in grisly fashion. When Jason shows up on fire at a rave and attacks all the loser "cool style" kids, it is close to Conan the Barbarian in that Jason uses his machete to great advantage. I can go on and on about how great this film was. Go see it for yourself. Hats off to Ronny Yu for making a film for the fans.
uhhh...it was great., 19 August 2003

this movie was divine. the fights scenes were great, jason and freddy were up to their usual bag of tricks. if anyone goes into this film seeking a political and/or social commentary on life, then you are not a good person and you were not supposed to be in the theater. love, james
