According to both Ronny Yu and Ken Kirzinger, the performance as Jason was based off Frankenstein's monster.
It has been said in such interviews with Robert Englund that this film was inspired by "Frankenstein meets The Wolf Man".
The idea of Freddy becoming a caterpillar smoking a bong comes from this film, in which the thing the character smokes from is compared to a bong and he has been accused of being a stoner.
Gibb asks Lori and Kia "marry, fuck or kill" question about the Three Stooges.
The show is brought up a few times first at the beginning when Kia asks Lorri who she would have sex with Fred, Shaggy, or Scooby, and Deputy Stubbs reffers to the gang's van as the Scooby gang van.
Chest carving sequence.
When Freddy gets his arms cut off by Jason it is like the Black Knight getting his limbs cut off in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Robert Englund spoke about it in the Audio Commentary for Freddy vs. Jason.
"Freddy vs. Jason" director Ronny Yu said in the documentary "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy" that he got the idea of Jason rising out of the lake from a scene in "Apocalypse Now" when Martin Sheen's character, "Captain Benjamin L. Willard" rises out of a lake.
The movie features the scene when Jason is drowned just like the first Friday the 13th.
In Jason's dream sequence, a taunting camper puts a burlap sack on his head like the one he wore in Friday the 13th Part 2 to hide his face.
Freddy talks about his first killing spree. There are many homages for the original film: the goat in Blake's dream, like the lamb in Tina's first nightmare; Lori lives in the same house as Nancy; her mother her killed by Freddy; in a flashback, Will climbs to Lori's bedroom window like Glen climbed to Nancy's window; the morning after the first killings, Lori's father tells her that she'd better not go to school, like Nancy's mother told her.
During the opening monologue, Freddy refers to himself as "The Springwood Slasher". This name has previously been seen in a newspaper article given to Jesse in A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2.
When Freddy sees Kia, he says "How sweet, dark meat" - similarly to the sentence he said in the fourth film when he saw Alice "How sweet, fresh meat".
