Ranked: Every Summer Movie Season Since 1980 - Part 1

8 September 2014 4:11 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Summer movie season is a magic time of year when Hollywood traditionally rolls out its most appealing merchandise. It’s true that some summer movie seasons are better than others. This is our ranking of all the summer movie seasons since 1980 from worst to best.

On January 20th, 1975, Steven Spielberg and Universal Studios released Jaws. The movie landscape would be forever changed from that date. Jaws is widely credited as being the first blockbuster film because it was the first movie to make over $100 million (non-adjusted). The fact that the film had a meager $8 million budget meant that it was a huge cash cow for the studio and rocketed Spielberg to the the forefront of a new generation of filmmakers for a new era of movie mass-consumption. George Lucas and Spielberg followed up in 1977 with Star Wars, which became a sensational and very profitable hit. It helped to convince production »

'Texas Chainsaw' Prequel 'Leatherface' Gets Writer Seth M. Sherwood

13 August 2014 6:21 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Millennium Films is moving forward with its planned Texas Chainsaw prequel, now simply titled Leatherface, hiring writer Seth M. Sherwood to pen the screenplay.

Last Month, it was rumored that this proposed prequel will focus on the iconic killer's teenage years. The Wrap is confirming that to be true, though no further details have been released as Millennium Films keeps the plot under wraps. It's believed that Leatherface will be an origin story, which shows how the chainsaw wielding mad man came of age in the 1970s.

Alexandra Daddario, who starred as Leatherface's long-lost cousin in Texas Chainsaw 3D, was originally set to return for a true sequel to that 2013 movie, which claimed to be the 'real' continuation of the very first The Texas Chainsaw Massacre released in 1974. Because of this new iteration's timeline, it is not known if she is still going to appear, though its unlikely that she »

21 shocking straight-to-video sequels: How many have you seen?

5 July 2014 2:00 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

What's the only thing worse than a sequel? The only prospect worse than paying £10 at your local cinema to have your favourite movie ruined, forever. The answer has three words. Straight-to-video.

In the '90s, home release sequels became fairly common. You'd greet them with surprise at your local Blockbusters and then want to pull your eyeballs out when you took them home and watched them. They're probably called straight-to-dvd or straight-to-Blu-ray now, but they still exist.

Here are 21 absolute stinking sequels - the vast majority of which weren't even considered good enough for the cinema. How many of them have you watched?

1. American Pie Presents: Band Camp

2. American Pie Presents: Beta House

Maybe it's the Eugene Levy factor - just why did he keep starring in all the sequels?! - but we have weird sentimentality for the American Pie home release collection. We know that they're not technically canon, »

25 June 2014 9:54 AM, PDT | ShockYa | See recent ShockYa news »

Twenty years after its release, “Dumb and Dumber” will finally see its sequel open in theaters. Harry and Lloyd will re-team for an unexpected sequel and the return of Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey in the starring roles. The sequel film will be released during the holiday season in 2014 and will surely see some healthy competition at the box office. The “Dumb and Dumber” franchise has seen some highs and lows over the last two decades since the first film was released. A prequel film titled “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd” was released in 2003 to very little fanfare and critical response. An animated series from Hanna-Barbera  [ Read More ]

Suck Me Sideways! It’s The New ‘Dumb And Dumber To’ Poster

10 June 2014 2:15 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

It has been 20 years since Dumb And Dumber - Twenty years!! Before the trailer descends on us soon for the next crazy installment Dumb And Dumber To, a new poster has cropped up over the internet for fans to get all excited for November this year. That trailer is reported to be shown on The Jimmy Fallon Show tonight in the Us (lucky them!), so it should be all over the internet soon after for the rest of us.

As you might guess, Harry and Lloyd have obviously not lost their 90′s fashion sense with the hair and clothes – even the van is still…well, still a sheep dog! Hold on! How did they get the van back? In the first film Lloyd sold their beloved van for a tiny scooter after they broke down to get to Aspen so it’ll be interesting to see how this turns out »

The 'Dumb and Dumber To' Posters Are Suitable Reminders of the First Movie

21 March 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Sometimes it's easy to forget that this year brings a long overdue "Dumb and Dumber" sequel (titled, appropriately, "Dumb and Dumber To"), 20 years after the original. But in case this had slipped your mind, Universal has debuted a pair of teaser posters that, in the words of Vulture, are "pretty perfect."

Both posters feature a simple image: one of the garish tuxedoes that Lloyd (Jim Carrey) and Harry (Jeff Daniels) wore in the first movie, quite memorably. The posters are accompanied by two wonderfully chosen words: "Dumbing Soon." Yes.

According to the official plot synopsis, it features the two idiots looking for their long lost children "in the hope of gaining a new kidney." So it will maintain the road trip movie feel of the first film, with a whole bunch of additional nuttiness. Original writer/directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly are back (along with about sixteen other writers, who »

22 January 2014 8:42 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

I’m a lucky guy. Just the other day I tweeted this:

Screw all these CBMs. Just give me #DumbAndDumberTo all ready! Now! pic.twitter.com/2xP5evzRfs

— Mario-f. Robles (@LatinoReviewMFR) January 20, 2014

And then, as if the Movie Gods heard me, we were graced with our first official image from Dumb and Dumber To. I say official because there have been several pics from the production floating around, but those were just set pics that were sent out and tweeted by the stars of the movie. But now we have our first look at Harry and Lloyd in character, during a scene:

Dumb and Dumber To is going to pick up twenty years after the first film, and will center on an all-new adventure for our moronic heroes. In this one, Harry and Lloyd will set off on a new road trip, this time to find Harry’s illegitimate child… »
