Two opera singers are in competition for a position with an opera company. One is married to a wealthy man who takes care of her, the other is married to an invalid, is stepmother to his 12-year-old son and her family's future depends upon her getting this job. What her son doesn't know, and his stepmother does, is that his her rival for the job is none other than his real mother, a woman the boy's parents had told him was dead.
