Sony's The Angry Birds Movie took the number one spot at the domestic box office this weekend, pushing two-time champion, Captain America: Civil War, to second place as it begins its third week in release. Civil War's weekend, however, wasn't only about the domestic box office as it has now become the first 2016 release to cross $1 billion worldwide, doing so in just 24 days of global release. The weekend's two other new wide releases, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising and The Nice Guys, finished in third and fourth position respectively. Also, X-Men: Apocalypse launched overseas one week ahead of its domestic debut and hauled in over $100 million. Based on Rovio's mobile game application, Angry Birds finished just ahead of weekend tracking with an estimated $39 million. The best comparison from a performance standpoint is 2006's Over the Hedge, which also opened the week before Memorial Day weekend and scored a $38.4 million opening. That film, »

It could be a photo finish atop this weekend's box office charts as Captain America: Civil War will attempt to hold off Sony's Angry Birds. Meanwhile, Universal's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising faces a situation where the sequel isn't likely to top the original and Warner Bros. is hoping for the best with The Nice Guys, which has enjoyed the best reviews among the weekend's new wide releases, but finds itself jostling for attention among several higher profile releases. The fight atop the box office will have a lot to do with whether or not Sony's Angry Birds is able to breakout as it charges into 3,932 theaters. Based on Rovio's mobile platform video game, the 3D animated feature carries a $73 million budget and a strong ensemble of comedic voice talent. The budgetary figure places it in the same range as Illumination's Despicable Me franchise of films, the first of which was »

Kung Fu Panda 3, 2016.
Third instalment of the animated series, in which Po, the titular panda, finally meets his real father, and also has to do battle with Kai, a supernatural villain who drains the chi from every Kung Fu Master he encounters.
The quality of Dreamworks’ animated films has always varied greatly – from poor (Shark Tale) to great (Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon) with a whole lot of mediocre in between (Bee Movie, Rise of the Guardians, Over the Hedge). Their track record with sequels has been likewise uneven – although they were financially successful, each Shrek was weaker than the last, and I’d personally rather watch the new Ghostbusters trailer on an endless »

Back in 2014, Sony Pictures Animation announced that their new Smurfs movie will be completely animated, ditching the live-action/CGI hybrid format the studio used in 2011's The Smurfs and 2013's The Smurfs 2. USA Today has the first photos from this animated adventure, now entitled Smurfs: The Lost Village, which gives us our first look at three previously-unannounced characters, Hefty Smurf (voiced by Joe Manganiello), Clumsy Smurf (voiced by Jack McBrayer) and Brainy Smurf (voiced by Danny Pudi).
