Cop Car Trailer: Don’t Mess with Creepy Kevin Bacon

8 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Focus World has released the first trailer for the indie thriller Cop Car, and the moral of the story seems to be, “Don’t mess with creepy guys who have mustaches.” The film follows two young boys who stumble across an abandoned cop car and decide to take it on a joy ride. However, when the county sheriff discovers them, brutal consequences ensue. The movie actually looks quite good, with a tone in line with a Coen Brothers film and a menacing performance by Kevin Bacon. It’s a bit like Stand By Me, only with a horror movie twist. Check out the Cop Car trailer below, via Yahoo! Movies, and click here to read Matt's review from Sundance. Written by Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford and directed by Watts, the movie also stars Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim, James Freedson-Jackson, and Hays Welford. Cop Car will be released in »

Cannes Film Review: ‘Sicario’

19 May 2015 1:30 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Two years after making his U.S. debut with the crackerjack kidnapping drama “Prisoners,” French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve ups his own ante with “Sicario,” a blisteringly intense drug-trade thriller that combines expert action and suspense with another uneasy inquiry into the emotional consequences of violence. A densely woven web of compelling character studies and larger systemic concerns, Villeneuve and screenwriter Taylor Sheridan’s bleaker, more jaundiced riposte to Steven Soderbergh’s 2000 “Traffic” may prove too grim and grisly for some audiences and too morally ambiguous for others. But with its muscular style and top-flight cast, this fall Lionsgate release should score solid (if less than “Prisoners”-sized) business from discerning adult moviegoers, along with dark-horse awards-season buzz.

In a terrific performance that recalls the steely ferocity of Jodie Foster in “The Silence of the Lambs” and Jessica Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty,” Emily Blunt stars here as Kate Macer, an »

Laura Linney Joins Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

30 April 2015 2:59 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

There are people you expect to be announced as joining the cast of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. And then there’s Laura Linney. Imagine our surprise, then, when The Hollywood Reporter brought word that Linney is aboard the sequel. Usually found in indie and dramatic fare such as Kinsey, You Can Count On Me, Mystic River and The Truman Show, the closest she has come to a big superhero project is voicing the computer in Arthur Christmas. Yet, next year, she’ll be on screen in some unspecified role. Though the plot is still mostly unknown, the sequel will see the turtles – performance captured and voiced by Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek and Jeremy Howard – tackling threats new and old in New York City. Megan Fox and Will Arnett are back as April O’Neill and scuzzy cameraman Vernon Fenwick respectively, with Danny Woodburn once more »

Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy star in trailer for gangster movie ‘Legend’

30 April 2015 12:23 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Tom Hardy’s last acting challenge was acting entirely by himself for an entire movie while driving a car in 2014’s Locke. But now Hardy is doubling down on that challenge by starring as a set of twins in Brian Helgeland’s (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) gangster drama Legend.

Based on the ’50s and ’60s organized crime wave of The Kray twins, Reggie and Ronnie, Legend documents their rise to power and their rein of terror as night club owners and celebrity gangsters. In addition to their identical appearance, Ronnie Kray also suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, so there’s certainly a lot of meat here for Hardy to bite off. Here’s the official synopsis:

From Academy Award® winner Brian Helgeland comes the true story of the rise and fall of London’s most notorious gangsters, Reggie and Ron Kray, both portrayed by Tom Hardy in an amazing double performance. »

Laura Linney Boards Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

30 April 2015 10:59 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As bizarre a headline as that is, it’s true – three-time Oscar nominee Laura Linney, best known for her powerhouse parts in films such as Mystic River and TV series like HBO’s John Adams, has become the latest star to board Paramount’s big-budget sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

The nature of Linney’s role is, at least for now, a closely guarded secret.

Megan Fox and Will Arnett will reprise the roles of reporter April O’Neil and cameraman Vernon Fenwick, while the sequel will also see Arrow actor Stephen Amell, Brian Tee, Tyler Perry and supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio join the cast as the heroic Casey Jones, archvillain the Shredder, scientist Baxter Stockman and an unspecified love interest for Vernon, respectively. As with Linney’s involvement, news of Perry’s casting was met with surprise followed by mild amusement.

Of late, Linney’s filmography has largely included period flicks and prestige dramas, »

Tom Hardy Is The Kray Twins In First Trailer For Legend

30 April 2015 6:28 AM, PDT | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

He's already portrayed one famous British criminal in Bronson, now Tom Hardy is trying his hand at two with Legend, using CGI trickery to step into the shoes of the infamous Kray Twins, Ronnie and Reggie. Directed by Brian Helgeland (A Knight's Tale, and Oscar nominated writer of Mystic River), Legend delves into the twins rise to power in the 60's, a time when they terrorised London with their crime gang The Firm. While the first teaser is just that, it does gives us a great sense of the tone and style of the movie, and gives a look at Hardy's fantastic performance (or is that performances?), able to convey the differences between the two in ingeniously subtle ways. Why 1980 Was the Best Year in Movie History

27 April 2015 12:06 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

All week long our writers will debate: Which was the greatest film year of the past half century.  Click here for a complete list of our essays. How to decide in the grand scheme of things which film year stands above all others?  History gives us no clear methodology to unravel this thorny but extremely important question. Is it the year with the highest average score of movies?  So a year that averages out to a B + might be the winner over a field strewn with B’s, despite a few A +’s. Or do a few masterpieces lift up a year so far that whatever else happened beyond those three or four films is of no consequence? Both measures are worthy, and the winner by either of those would certainly be a year not to be sneezed at. But I contend the only true measure of a year’s »
