'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl': Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' review: Mostly an enjoyable romp (Oscar Movie Series) Pirate movies were a Hollywood staple for about three decades, from the mid-'20s (The Sea Hawk, The Black Pirate) to the mid-to-late '50s (Moonfleet, The Buccaneer), when the genre, by then mostly relegated to B films, began to die down. Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century. He smiled – grinned would be a more appropriate word – on the Gore Verbinski-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, »

The latest trailer from Brian Helgeland’s true life crime thriller Legend came our way earlier today, and it was quite fantastic! We also have some new images from the real life crime thriller, featuring another look at Tom Hardy’s nuanced and transformative performances as the legendary Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie (the way he becomes the becomes Ronnie by putting on glasses and carrying himself differently is amazing) , as other cast members Taron Egerton and Emily Browing. "London in the 1960s – every one had a story about the Krays. They were twins." StudioCanal UK and Universal has debuted the first trailer for Legend, a story about two twin brother gangsters from London, played by Tom Hardy. Both of 'em! Hardy plays both Ronald Kray and Reginald Kray in a slightly comedic crime story set in London. This seems like stiff competition for Black Mass, another crime saga involving a talented actor playing a legendary mobster. Also in the cast: Emily Browning, David Thewlis, Chazz Palminteri, Tara Fitzgerald, Christopher Eccleston and Taron Egerton. Maybe it's just because I'm partial to Tom Hardy, who almost always kick ass, but this looks like a bloody good time! Can't wait to see it. Here's the first official trailer for Brian Helgeland's Legend, originally from Yahoo: From Academy Award winner Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Mystic River) comes the true story »

It’s nothing new for an actor to play dual roles, but for Legend, Tom Hardy is putting in two vastly different performance as the notorious Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie, who ruled the London crime scene in the 60’s. From the below trailer, you can see the nuances he imbues each character with are absolutely incredible, and the film promises two very powerful performance from the leading man. On top of all that, it looks like director Brain Helgeland is going to deliver a solid and exciting crime thriller. Universal Pictures has released a new Legend trailer along with a new poster and images. Tom Hardy plays the dual roles of real-life twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray, who became major players in the 1960s London crime scene. Hardy is one of the best actors working today, and he continues to challenge himself with interesting roles. Locke stuck him inside of a car for the entire movie; Mad Max: Fury Road gave him only a handful of lines; and now he’s going to have to dual roles. Obviously, he’s not the first actor to do this, but it looks like he’s going to give vastly different performances in Legend that still have nuances for each character. On top of that, it looks like an interesting story, so hopefully this all comes together into an exciting crime thriller. Check out the Legend trailer below along with the poster and images. »

In HBO’s The Brink, which premiered Sunday, a low-level bureaucrat, a drug-dealing navy commander and the U.S. Secretary of State were faced with the rise of a schizophrenic dictator and the dawn of World War III.
The dark comedy, starring Jack Black (School of Rock), Tim Robbins (Mystic River) and a pornstache-less Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black), is meant to serve as an over-the-top satire on present-day geopolitical affairs. Unfortunately, its heightened reality and trio of drugged-up caricatures make it hard »

Focus World has released the first trailer for the indie thriller Cop Car, and the moral of the story seems to be, “Don’t mess with creepy guys who have mustaches.” The film follows two young boys who stumble across an abandoned cop car and decide to take it on a joy ride. However, when the county sheriff discovers them, brutal consequences ensue. The movie actually looks quite good, with a tone in line with a Coen Brothers film and a menacing performance by Kevin Bacon. It’s a bit like Stand By Me, only with a horror movie twist. Check out the Cop Car trailer below, via Yahoo! Movies, and click here to read Matt's review from Sundance. Written by Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford and directed by Watts, the movie also stars Shea Whigham, Camryn Manheim, James Freedson-Jackson, and Hays Welford. Cop Car will be released in »

Two years after making his U.S. debut with the crackerjack kidnapping drama “Prisoners,” French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve ups his own ante with “Sicario,” a blisteringly intense drug-trade thriller that combines expert action and suspense with another uneasy inquiry into the emotional consequences of violence. A densely woven web of compelling character studies and larger systemic concerns, Villeneuve and screenwriter Taylor Sheridan’s bleaker, more jaundiced riposte to Steven Soderbergh’s 2000 “Traffic” may prove too grim and grisly for some audiences and too morally ambiguous for others. But with its muscular style and top-flight cast, this fall Lionsgate release should score solid (if less than “Prisoners”-sized) business from discerning adult moviegoers, along with dark-horse awards-season buzz.

There are people you expect to be announced as joining the cast of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. And then there’s Laura Linney. Imagine our surprise, then, when The Hollywood Reporter brought word that Linney is aboard the sequel. Usually found in indie and dramatic fare such as Kinsey, You Can Count On Me, Mystic River and The Truman Show, the closest she has come to a big superhero project is voicing the computer in Arthur Christmas. Yet, next year, she’ll be on screen in some unspecified role. Though the plot is still mostly unknown, the sequel will see the turtles – performance captured and voiced by Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Pete Ploszek and Jeremy Howard – tackling threats new and old in New York City. Megan Fox and Will Arnett are back as April O’Neill and scuzzy cameraman Vernon Fenwick respectively, with Danny Woodburn once more »
