While they often make us a feel a little uneasy about going into the water, shark movies have always proven a hit with audiences. Fans of the genre may be excited to hear that shooting has just started on the Gold Coast for Bait 3D, a new shark action film shot in, uh, 3D. The script was penned by Australian born Russell Mulcahy - director of 1986's Highlander, the Jesse Spencer/Geoffrey Rush starrer Swimming Upstream and more recently Resident Evil: Extinction - who was also originally meant to direct the film. However directorial duties were passed to Kimble Rendall, who finally follows up the Kylie Minogue and Molly Ringwald shocker, Cut (2000), in the meantime working as an assistant director on an impressive array of commercial hits including the recently shot actioner The Killer Elite, as well as Knowing and Matrix Reloaded. »
Spike Lee is an executive producer on the noirish drama, which begins shooting next week in New York. The project was selected for the Tribeca Film Institute's All Access program this year as part of its narrative film roster.
In the story, a Lower East Side bartender becomes entangled in a murder mystery involving a desperate woman, a missing drug dealer and the scion of a powerful investment firm. Mayuran Tiruchelvam co-wrote the script with Onah.
