When I watched Humraaz a couple of years ago, I didn't know any of the stars except for Akshaye Khanna, who I had seen in Taal. Humraaz obviously is inspired in part by the Hollywood movie A Perfect Murder, but it is not entirely similar in plot to it. Despite this, this movie went on to become one of my favorites anyway.

The main plot of the movie is about a dance troupe which Karan and Priya(Akshaye Khanna and Amisha Patel) are members of and want to become rich and famous, etc. However, when the leader of another rival dance troupe thwarts their chances at making it big, one problem leads to another for Karan and he is forced to cover up each of his actions afterwards. Priya and Karan have one main goal, which is to become rich. Their chance arrives in the form of Raj(Bobby Deol) while on a cruise promoting their troupe. After this meeting, there are many twists and turns in the plot which should keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.

Humraaz is a thriller but it also has, like many Bollywood movies, a few comic relief moments as well. Even though the 'funny' parts can be a little annoying, they help to keep the movie somewhat light. The songs are all great and my personal favorites are the title song "Sanam Mere Humraaz" and "Dil Ne Kar Liya".

Performance-wise I think Akshaye was very much the best and he shows his range in this thriller. I thought Amisha was very average and her performance was often laughably bad. You can tell just by her unnecessary hyperventillating in scenes. Luckily though, she didn't ruin the movie for me as the unpredictable and interesting storyline make up for most mediocre performances and unnecessary bits. Bobby Deol was above average.

I've recommended this movie to close family and friends and most of them liked it a lot.
