Another Adoption for Angelina Jolie?

26 August 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Angelina Jolie is reportedly set to adopt another child, after spending time investigating the possibility on a goodwill mission for the U.N. in Russia. The Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life star spent hours engaged in talks with adoption authorities and also visited a children's hospital on the trip, where she had spoken passionately in defense of Chechan refugees. Movie actress Angelina is the mother of two-year-old Maddox, whom she adopted from Cambodia - and she has previously spoken of her desire to adopt more needy kids. She said, "I prefer to adopt. With every adoption I save a further child from the orphanage. That's the way I see it." Schumacher: I'm Not To Blame for 'Phantom' Role

22 August 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

A row has broken out between Andrew Lloyd Webber, producer Joel Schumacher and fans of Michael Crawford over the decision to cast Gerard Butler in the film version of The Phantom Of The Opera. Crawford, 61, created the role of the Phantom on the British stage, and fans are up in arms with producer Schumacher for his passing over Crawford in favor of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life hunk Butler, 33, in the big- screen adaptation. However, Schumacher insists he isn't the man to blame. In a statement, Schumacher says, "The decision not to use Michael Crawford is Lloyd Webber's and his alone. All friends and fans of Crawford should please tell everyone from me. If you care to write to Lloyd Webber, it's at the Really Useful Company in London." »

Is Angelina Jolie Back with Jonny?

21 August 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood bombshell Angelina Jolie has reunited with her first husband Jonny Lee Miller, according to reports in Britain. Since she moved to Britain with her two-year-old adopted Cambodian son Maddox, she and Trainspotting star Miller have had a string of secret dates, according to the London Evening Standard newspaper. The Oscar-winning beauty Tuesday night attended the premiere of the second Tomb Raider movie, The Cradle Of Life, with Jonny - and admitted, "We are very, very close. We see each other a lot. Jonny is wonderful." The pair - who met while filming Hackers in 1994 - flirted and cuddled for more than three hours at the party at the In And Out Club in Piccadilly. A close friend of the couple says, "It's early days - but they are very much back on each other's radar. They have met up for quite a few dates since Angelina has been living in Britain. They seem to be starting off where they left off. They are soulmates." And an onlooker adds, "At the start, they were talking to separate people but kept breaking away to give each other a reassuring touch, then as the night wore on, they were locked in conversation and no one else could get a look in. They looked so comfortable - there was no doubt they were much more than friends." In a recent interview, Jolie revealed that she had turned to Miller for comfort and support following her divorce from Billy Bob Thornton earlier this year. She and Miller had separated a year after they wed in 1996, mainly because Miller had had enough of Hollywood and returned to Britain. But Jolie is now living in the UK - and said last night, "I'm doing flying school here and sending Maddox to school here - and yes, I have just bought a home in Buckinghamshire." »

'Tomb Raider' Video Game Blamed for Film Failure

30 July 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Disappointed movie bosses are pointing the finger of blame at video game Tomb Raider - Cradle Of Life after the Angelina Jolie-starring sequel of the same name bombed at the box office. Executives at Paramount were left stunned when the much-hyped action movie took only $21.8 million on its first weekend at the American box office, less than half of what the original installment bagged in the same time frame. And they cite the critical mauling given to the latest computer game as the reason cinema goers are deserting the archeological franchise. Paramount's Wayne Lewellen says, "The only thing we can attribute to is that gamers were not happy with the latest version of the video game." »

I Didn't Snog My Brother, Says Angelina Jolie

18 July 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sexpot actress Angelina Jolie has denied long-standing rumors that she kissed her brother inappropriately at the Oscar ceremony in 2000. The Tomb Raider star was so excited at winning the Best Supporting Actress award for Girl, Interrupted that she kissed brother James Haven on the lips. And Angelina puts her excitement down to her desire to emulate her dad, actor Jon Voight, who won the Best Actor statuette in 1979 for war drama Coming Home. The 28-year-old says, "I didn't snog my brother. I wanted an Oscar my whole life - my father had had one. Me and my brother had a very difficult upbringing. We both survived a lot together and it meant a lot that he supported me my whole life. And in that moment, you reach to kiss somebody, and you end up kissing their mouth. Who cares? It wasn't like we had our mouths open, it wasn't some romantic kiss." »

Jolie Hits Out at Her Dad

11 July 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Angelina Jolie has lashed out at her estranged father Jon Voight for going public with his concerns about her last summer - because his tearful TV appearances could have wrecked her hopes of motherhood. Speaking to broadcaster Barbara Walters in a TV special that airs today in America, the Tomb Raider star says her Oscar winning dad's public bids for her to get help following the breakup of her marriage were wrong. Voight went on various showbiz news shows last August, hoping his concerns would prompt his estranged daughter to seek counseling for a mysterious mental illness. Jolie now fires back, "The most difficult thing is, in him doing that, it could have affected my relationship with my child. They could have decided he's right, she's crazy, let's remove that child from her custody, and that's unforgivable. I've been crazy in my life, and I've been wild in my life, but I've never been a bad person. I've never intentionally hurt other people just to hurt them." »

Their bizarre marriage - which began in 2000 and ended in May last year - saw the pair bragging about their sex lives and wearing vials of each others blood around their necks - but the Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life babe insists there's no affection left between the couple. The Oscar-winning actress spilled her heart to interviewer Barbara Walters in a chat to be aired on American TV this Friday. Angelina Jolie "Hated" Lara Croft

2 June 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Sexy babe Angelina Jolie hated her famous Lara Croft character at first - because she was just a "cartoonish cute girl in hotpants." The 27-year-old star wowed cinema audiences with her portrayal of the curvy computer game action girl in 2001's hit Tomb Raider - but Jolie was initially horrified at the way Croft had been portrayed in the script. She explains, "I hated her. The image was that she's extremely voluptuous and wears little shorts and that was all. To be honest, the first version of the script was about as bad as that. She was too cheesy and more like Barbarella - she wasn't the adventurer or strong woman she is now. I started talking to the people making it and there was a big discussion about the short shorts. We kind of pulled away from the cartoonish, cute girl in hotpants." After reshaping the role to ease her fears, Jolie, who will appear as Croft again in this summer's sequel Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, came to look affectionately on the role. She says, "Now, I've really come to like Lara, so she's just like a weird friend." »

The Tomb Raider star has requested $15,000 go towards therapeutic feeding kits to helping children under five - the rest of the money will go towards buying agricultural tools for refugees. Jolie says "I was distressed when this desperate situation was brought to my attention. He's not yet a household face, but Scottish-born actor Gerard Butler has been offered the starring role as the man behind the mask in helmer Joel Schumacher and Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical feature The Phantom of the Opera. Butler, who most recently appeared in Reign of Fire, has not decided whether to take the role because he is fielding other offers, among them Crusader Entertainment's The Game of Their Lives. Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries) and Emmy Rossum (Passionada) have emerged as the top choices to play Phantom's female lead, Christine. Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group is producing the project, which goes into production in October. A domestic distributor has yet to come on board. Italy in protest over lack of summer releases

18 April 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Italian exhibitors wrote to the Motion Picture Association of America on Thursday to protest the U.S. majors' alleged refusal to release several high-profile summer titles during the country's still-underdeveloped summer season. Exhibitor association ANEC lamented in the letter -- addressed also to Italy's Culture Ministry -- that titles such as Columbia TriStar's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, UIP's Lara Croft and the Cradle of Life: Tomb Raider 2 and Fox's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will go out in summer in other European territories but will not reach Italian screens until after August. ANEC's complaint comes just as encouraging figures show a 5.6% rise in Italian admissions to 27.2 million tickets sold during the first quarter of 2003, according to national boxoffice compiler Cinetel. »

Celebs open jittery H.K. festival

9 April 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

HONG KONG -- The severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) scare that has kept Hong Kongers at home or in surgical masks failed to dampen the festivities at Tuesday's opening of the 27th Hong Kong International Film Festival. Celebrities and guests -- including directors Teddy Chan (Purple Storm), Alan Mak (Infernal Affairs) and Johnnie To (The Mission), actor Simon Yam (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life) and 1960s Shaw brothers kung fu star Cheng Pei-pei -- turned up, mostly sans masks, to declare the festival open. "Our festival is definitely very strong this year in terms of content and promotion," fest director Peter Tsi said. "The Hong Kong audience has been very supportive. In fact, with day-to-day on-par ticket sales, we are actually up more than 10%. I think in these (difficult) times, the festival can give out a positive message: We should stop panicking." »

Angelina Jolie's Dress Was Never Stolen

27 March 2003 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The appeal for the return of Angelina Jolie's stolen Oscars dress has turned out to be a hoax - she doesn't even know the man who claims to have designed it. The Tomb Raider stunner, 27, was said to have had a figure-hugging red corset dress worth $4,500 designed for her by Scott Henshall stolen just days before she was due to fly from London to Los Angeles for the March 23 ceremony. Henshall, who claimed the dress was stolen from his BMW which was parked in London's posh Knightsbridge, appealed, "I would offer a cash reward to anyone who returned them in time. I have already been searching litter bins in the area in case the dresses were dumped. There were 20 outfits in the collection and now the nine most glamorous have gone. There is no way I can remake Angelina's or any of the other dresses in time." But a source close to the Academy Award-winning Girl, Interrupted star tells American magazine Us Weekly, "She doesn't know this man, nor has he designed her dress." Jolie's dress was, in fact, designed by Giorgio Armani. But in the end, the whole storm over dresses was for nothing - Jolie opted out of this year's ceremony, deeming it "inappropriate" because of the current war. »
