Yam, who received the 27th Singapore International Film Festival’s Cinema Legend award on Saturday, revealed this during an In Conversation event at the festival on Sunday.
“I’m not going to Hollywood to make Hollywood movies,” Yam said. “I’m staying in South East Asia. There are so many stories to be told here. Whether it is Singapore or Malaysia or China, people must tell their local stories. Build your foundation, focus on it and the world will come around.”
Yam’s performances in films including “Ptu,” “Election,” “Echoes of the Rainbow” and “Ip Man,” and more recently “Mrs. K” have resonated around the world. “Don’t isolate yourself,” is Yam’s advice to actors. “The film »

It’s been 13 years now since we saw Angelina Jolie take on the iconic role appearing originally in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 followed by the sequel (which also starred a pre-James Bond Daniel Craig) Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life in 2003. Earlier this year it was announced that Oscar winning actor and all-round lovely […]

In 1998, BBC decided to pull the plug on Red Dwarf after its eighth series. The final series, aired in 1999, climaxed with an episode titled “Only The Good”, which ended with the words ‘The End’, before being replaced with ‘The Smeg It Is’. And that would be correct, as this was not to be the end of the road for Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kochanski and Kryten, as co-creator Doug Naylor had big plans for the future of Red Dwarf – he was going to make a movie.
Initially Naylor had planned to do a ninth series of the show, but the BBC rejected his proposal. While it’s not known exactly why the series was turned down, the official Red Dwarf website noted that they now had more than 52 episodes of the show in the can, »

In a way, Angelina Jolie paved the way for Alicia Vikander. E! News' Maria Menounos caught up with the 27-year-old actress Monday at the Las Vegas premiere of her new movie, Jason Bourne, and asked her how it feels to be taking over the role Jolie made famous 15 years ago. "That is a woman I would love to meet," Vikander said of Jolie, a fellow Oscar winner who starred in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its sequel, 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. "She made an icon of that character, of course." Vikander said she is a longtime fan of Jolie's work, both in front of and behind the camera. "She's quite an incredible woman," she raved of the actress, director and »

Now that Alicia Vikander has been set to play Lara Croft in MGM and Warner Bros.' long-awaited Tomb Raider reboot, the studios have finally set a release date. Warner Bros. will release Tomb Raider on March 16, 2018, a date the studio had previously set aside for a DC Comics project, which most believed was The Flash. That project recently lost its director, Seth Grahame-Smith, who was quickly replaced by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), but the superhero movie doesn't have an official release date at this time.
The Hollywood Reporter has news of this release date, which comes just a few months after Warner Bros. made a different release date shift. Back in April, Warner Bros. pushed its Jungle Book sequel into 2018, while setting an October 6, 2017 release date for an untitled event film. There had been speculation that this slot could be used for the Tomb Raider reboot, which, at the time, »
Lara Croft, the globe-trotting adventurer, now has an official date for her return to the silver screen. Warner Bros announced that Tomb Raider will be in theaters on March 16, 2018, according to Variety. The film will star Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander as Croft. No other cast is yet attached to the project. By the time the movie is out in 2018, it will have been nearly 15 years since the last in the series, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, was released. That movie starred a then 28-year-old Angelina Jolie as Croft. The two movies with Jolie grossed an unadjusted $430 million worldwide. Vikander has a busy schedule these days. She’s in the upcoming Jason Bourne movie set for release later this month and has four other films in various stages of production. »

Along with Duncan Jones’s Warcraft it’s been billed as the video game movie that might just make us forget all about the cinematic crimes of Uwe Boll and his ilk, that can induce glorious amnesia for those struggling to wipe clean memories of Prince of Persia, Hitman or Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

Warner Bros. has found its new Lara Croft! Last month, Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout star Daisy Ridley confirmed that she had engaged in discussions with Warner Bros., MGM and Gk Films to star as Lara Croft in their highly-anticipated Tomb Raider reboot. We never heard anything official about the actress' casting, but, at the time, we also hadn't heard about any other actresses who were in the running for the coveted role. Today, it was announced that it's not Daisy Ridley who landed the role, but Ex Machina and The Danish Girl star Alicia Vikander who will play the iconic video game adventurer.
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the actress has signed on to this reboot, which will focus on a much younger Lara Croft. We reported last month that this reboot will serve as an origin story for Lara, with the screenplay being adapted from the »

Alicia Vikander is the next Lara Croft. The Danish Girl actress has inked a deal to star in the upcoming Tomb Raider film for MGM, Warner Bros and Gk Films, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Wave director Roar Uthaug is on board to direct the reboot, which he has said is based on the current rebooted Tomb Raider video game series. In the updated video game series, archaeologist and explorer Lara Croft bears less resemblance to Angelina Jolie Pitt, who famously played the role onscreen in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. »

Alicia Vikander better brush up on her video games, because the Oscar-winnning actress is about to take on a huge role. She'll be playing Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, director Roar Uthaug's reboot. She has some pretty big shoes to fill, given that Angelina Jolie originated the role in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new film "will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure." It's a big departure for Vikander, who has recently risen to fame thanks to dramatic roles in films like The Danish Girl, Anna Karenina, and Ex Machina. This is also a big get for Vikander, as Daisy Ridley was being eyed for the part not too long ago. »

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. pushed their highly-anticipated The Jungle Book: Origins out of its October 6, 2017 release date, moving it up by over one full year to October 19, 2018. The studio moved an "untitled event film" in the October 6, 2017 slot, but no details were given for the project that was replacing The Jungle Book: Origins. Today we have a new report from Heroic Hollywood, which claims that the movie set for release next October is their Tomb Raider reboot.
The site reports that, one month ago today, Warner Bros. registered the domain TheTombRaiderMovie.com. We also reported last month that Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout star Daisy Ridley is being eyed to star as Lara Croft. The actress later confirmed that she has been in discussions to play this iconic video game character, but it isn't known if her deal has been finalized or not.

It’s starting to look like the globe-trotting adventurer Lara Croft might be making her way back to theaters after all. Fifteen years after Angelina Jolie first brought the popular video game character to life, Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley confirms that she’s in talks to star in the next Tomb Raider movie. She revealed the news while at the Empire Awards in London. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Ridley said there “have been conversations” about her playing Croft, but nothing is for certain. “I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it',” she said. Ridley noted that there is not a script for the film just yet. Since Jolie last played the character in the 2003 movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, any sort of reboot has sputtered and stalled. During this time, the list of potential leading ladies associated »
