Better than it's predecessor
25 August 2002 | by (Santa Cruz, CA) – See all my reviews

Onimusha II is a great adventure and fans of the first game should definitely check it out. Yet with all good games (and movies) there are minor flaws.

The Good: Beautiful graphics...some of the best on the PlayStation 2. The pre-rendered backgrounds are gorgeous, so don't listen to others who say pre-rendered scenery is obsolete. The controls are similar (a few extra tweaks have been added) to the original so it's easy to pick up and go at it. It still has that "simply fun to play" gameplay which made the original such a hit. Onimusha II also features changeable characters as with the original. Oh, and another orgasmic cinema scene opens the game.

The Bad: The game carries one of Onimusha Warlords' biggest problems- it's too short! A little longer than the original, this game should take an experienced gamer 5-8 hours to beat. A trading system that allows you to collect items and upgrade your stuff helps add depth. Compared to Capcom's Resident Evil (GameCube) which I personally think is the best looking game ever (I still agree as I'm cleaning up this review's grammar in mid-2005), Onimusha is not quite up to par in the graphics department.

The Ugly: That one she-demon. You'll know when you see her.

Final Thought: Great graphics and gameplay, but too short. Then again, Onimusha is the type of single player game you can go back to every year or so without getting tired of it.
