What--no elephant stampede?!

INSIDE THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN implies that co-producer Harry Saltzman left the James Bond team in a huff in 1974 when his burning desire to film 50 elephants stampeding in racing shoes he'd already purchased for them was ignored. Saltzman had been on board for all eight of Eon Production's Agent 007 flicks prior to GOLDEN GUN. (I think that Bond's corkscrew car jump would have looked better had it flown over 50 running elephants as opposed to the turgid canal shown in GOLDEN GUN's final cut, but that's just me). Vampire Christopher Lee (Scaramanga, the title character here) says Mr. Golden Gun's three nipples are quite common in real life (and he should know). Jamaica, Iran, Lebanon, Cambodia, and Vietnam all were considered for the location of Scaramanga's hideout, before production designer Peter Murton "discovered" the "James Bond Island" 10 miles from Phuket, Thailand. With 18 GOLDEN GUN cast and crew members chiming in, INSIDE THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN is chock full of such arcane trivia.
