Saluting the movie characters who make an impression, the minute they appear on the screen...

One thing that unites all of cinema’s most iconic characters is that they were able to make a memorable first impression. Whether it’s bursting onto the scene in a flurry of noise or slowly skulking their way into shot, there’s a fine art to ensuring a character makes an instant impact on screen. An iconic entrance is not just about a momentary impact however, it can also emphasise a character’s importance and help to cement their influence over the rest of the movie.

TF1 Studio Celebrates One Year as French Film Banner

3 April 2017 9:30 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

TF1 Studio is about to turn one year old. France’s largest commercial network launched the vertically integrated film banner in May as a way to consolidate their disparate acquisition, development and multi-platform distribution channels.

By centralizing its organization, unifying aims and offering partners a single point of contact, TF1 Studio execs say a clear brand and a steady hand will give them a competitive advantage in the country’s ever-difficult film distribution marketplace.

Run by Nathalie Toulza-Madar and Tristan du Laz, and overseen by TF1 Entertainment director Olivier Jacobs — he is also responsible for TF1 Films, a co-financing and production subsidiary that is nonetheless wholly apart — TF1 Studio will partner with local distributors for 12 theatrical releases this year, and up to 15 in the years to come.

In keeping with TF1’s mainstream brand, the slate has a decided focus on crowd-pleasing, wide-appeal features. Upcoming films “Dr. Knock,” a period »

Trespass Against Us review: The fields of Gloucestershire are the unexpected location for this gritty crime movie starring Brendan Gleeson and Michael Fassbender at odds as father and son.

Trespass Against Us review, Paul Heath, March 2017.

Michael Fassbender leads the cast of this impressive directorial debut from music video, television and documentary helmer Adam Smith, and screenwriter Alastair Siddons. After debuting under the special presentations category at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, the picture finally arrives on UK soil courtesy of Lionsgate.

The film revolves around a travelling community in rural Gloucestershire. The clan is headed up by patriarch Colby Cutler (Brendan Gleeson), a notorious local gangster intent on involving his family in his criminal activities. His son Chad, gloriously played by Michael Fassbender with full West Country-garb, is looking for a way out for him and his family, but Colby has other plans for him and plots an elaborate »

Chicago Fire Season 5 Episode 11 Review: Who Lives and Who Dies

24 January 2017 11:43 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Chicago Fire has been a roller coaster for the last few weeks, up and down and stomping on our heartstrings. Chicago Fire Season 5 Episode 11 starts out as a way for both the characters and audience to decompress from that - and then promptly goes nuts again because it can.

The major thrust of the episode is Casey and Dawson trying to resume their lives after losing Louie to his biological father Andre. Both of them take it badly but they express their grief in two totally different ways.

Casey gets the anger side of the equation, snapping at everyone else around him and turning into the world's biggest neat freak when Herrmann thinks there's a rat in Firehouse 51. Seriously, Niecy Nash would be proud of how much cleaning he makes everyone else do. After she gave him a talking-to about his attitude.

Hey, Lieutenant, is there something you want to get off your chest? »

Days of Our Lives Recap: Where is the Real Nicole Walker?

21 January 2017 6:00 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Nicole Walker has been one of my favorite characters since she tried being a church secretary for Eric.

The Nicole I knew then was smart, confident, and willing to be devious for a good cause.

She loved Eric but wasn't afraid to stand up to him when he left her in limbo because the church wouldn't sanction their marriage.

She kept Jj's secret about the night Theresa overdosed but expressed her concerns to Daniel.

She ignored Daniel's attempt to protect her and helped fight off a drug dealer he'd decided to confront, then blackmailed the dealer into leaving town.

That Nicole is long gone, and instead we have this weak woman who loves Deimos for no apparent reason and is willing to beg both him and Brady for permission to visit Chloe in the hospital.

Nicole's character has been on a downward trajectory for a couple of years. After she »
