Wholesome Family Entertainment Part 11: The Seavage Obsession, 5 August 2010
Author: Tromafreak from Tallahassee, Florida

Obsessions of any kind are considered by most to be unhealthy. And a guy like Chris Seaver, the director of this film, only tends to confirm this theory, at least a couple times a year. Now, the Seavage's mental issues are his business, and nobody elses. Although, I must point out, this "thing" with Lord Of The Rings, comic book stuff and John Stamos is a bit unsettling. And this whole fascination with 80's mainstream... Well, as I said, that's his business. But as a long-time obsessive fan of the B-movies, I must be true to my own instincts, and take the good with the bad, and just accept the fact that Chris Seaver is a genius, and is possibly the greatest film director of this era. A bold statement? I don't think so. An understatement if anything. Maybe I'm biased. Maybe I'm just damaged like our pal, Seavage. I like to think of it as a sense of humor.

Nearly a decade ago, Seaver gave us what would become one of his signature accomplishments. Starring the gorgeous Debbie Rochon, and the legendary TeenApe (as himself), Filthy McNasty is an outlandish tale, in the spirit of everything from Pink Flamingo's, to Airplane, to a bunch of stuff I was fortunate enough to have missed. About a couple of geeky chicks, who want nothing more than to be apart of the popular crowd of "pretty people", or at least to not be so disgusting-looking. In a shocking twist, a local demon (Phil) overhears their personal woes, and makes it his business to transform these hideous geeks in to a couple of hot ladies, which couldn't be more convenient, considering the party of the year is tonight, and guess who's now invited. Apparently we miss the part explaining why Phil must slaughter the party-goers in unrealistically hilarious ways. Truly one of the most obnoxious, and unoriginal movies you'll ever lay eyes on, and I'm proud to say, that after viewing it, I now own nearly every LBP flick available.

Upon viewing even the first scene of Filthy McNasty, it becomes crystal clear that Chris Seaver cares about one thing, and one thing only. What Chris Seaver finds funny.A mentality which doesn't always go so well (Andy Kaufman). Although, in Seaver's case, it works really, really well. I don't even think this guy is all that concerned whether or not his films get released. Other than the priceless dialog, I mainly dig Seavers films because of the cast, who always appear to be having a good time. More so in the newer ones. I especially enjoy the audio commentary. If you're anything like me, and you didn't find Filthy McNasty to be repulsive and irritating, I got spectacular news. There are massive amounts of Seaver's Low Budget Pictures, before and since McNasty. Epics such as TeenApe Goes To Camp, Terror At Blood Fart Lake, Ski-Wolf, Taintlight, and Wet Heat, and many, many, and I mean MANY more. To make a film like Flithy McNasty isn't what makes Seaver insane. The fact that the man has made over 40 of them, and the fact that he's only in his early 30's... now, that's insane.

Regardless, I will be eternally grateful to this man for setting the standard for the 21st century B-movie. We all owe the Seavage a debt of gratitude for his hand in keeping the Drive-in schlock alive. 2001 was a while ago, and I assure you that the over-all quality of Chris Seaver's LBP flicks has only grown, yet remain stupid in all he right ways. Keep an eye out for Low Budget Pictures of the future, such as Beyond McNasty, and Night Of The Inbred Rednecks. My only gripe with these films is that they're all mostly 45-60 minutes long. Aside from that, I would passionately recommend Filthy McNasty, as well as every LBP available to the entire worlds population... or at least to obsessive B-movie fans with low standards. And a twisted sense of humor might help. Think of me what you will, but my overwhelming loyalty to LBP will not allow me to give a Seaver flick anything less than a perfect score. Thank's again, Seavage. Long live Low Budget Pictures!!! 10/10
