Very lively, exciting, accurate account of the famed battle of Hernani, of the romantic "new wave" versus the starched establishment. Alexandre Brasseur is over the top as young Victor Hugo : in no time does the viewer forget he is Claude's son and Pierre's grandson and calls him Victor ! He is aptly feverish, enthusiastic, uncomfortable or dejected but mostly he IS this young man who believes in a new form of art, closer to life. And the other performers are all excellent, particularly Jean-Pierre Coffe as a ridiculous supporter of tradition.Bravo Jean-Daniel Verhaegue who always remains in command while he has to deal with many group scenes featuring lots of ebullient restless young people.
