Weird. Just weird!
11 October 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Attack of the Killer B-Movies" has to be the strangest special that Elvira has ever hosted. Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) joins stars of then-NBC Saturday morning teen shows: Dustin Diamond and Natalia Cigliuti ("Saved by the Bell: The New Class"), William James Jones and Kelly Packard ("California Dreams") and Megan Parlen ("Hang Time"). Sitting in a living room set, they all settle in to watch colorized -- and heavily edited -- versions of four classic z-movies ("The Wasp Woman," "Monster from the Green Hell," "The Navy Vs. The Night Monsters," and "Killers From Space"). In the tradition of "Mystery Science Theatre," the six then interrupt the films every 30 seconds with one-liners, gags plus promotion for other NBC programs(!?).

I have to wonder what the creators of this special were thinking. To cast Elvira would be one thing, to cast the teens would be another. But the combo comes across as awkward with Elvira seated alone on the opposite side of the room, all but removed from interaction with the teens, who are seated together on a couch. There are some funny wisecracks from both camps, but the special comes off as little more than a curio to fans of both Elvira's and the teen shows.
