30 December 2010 8:02 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Naomi Watts acted as maid of honour at the wedding of one of her longtime friends in Australia on Thursday.

The Hollywood actress, who grew up Down Under, spent the festive season in Sydney and this week (ends02Jan11) fulfilled a promise to her friend, film publicist Emma Cooper, by acting as her chief bridesmaid.

Watts' partner Liev Schreiber was also involved in the nuptials at Sydney's Shore Chapel, giving a reading during the ceremony, while Australian actor Simon Baker and Without A Trace star Anthony La Paglia were also in attendance.

Cooper, daughter of director Guy Cooper, married Australian television writer Henry Cripps. Watts is godmother to the couple's six-month-old son Casper and they all live in the same New York neighbourhood. »

2010 Look Back at the Year in Film

24 December 2010 9:10 AM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

Scott Mendelson

hollywoodnews.com: Let us begin our look back at the year in film with a token acknowledgement of ten films whose reputations did not proceed them. For the record, not all of the films below are bad pictures. But they all generated critical and/or audience esteem that they perhaps did not entirely earn. There is nothing wrong with overpraising a good film. It often emanates from a hunger for quality that often causes we the critics to look at a merely solid and/or competent piece of cinema and hail it as a groundbreaking work of art. The following are in alphabetical order.

The Ghost Writer

The release of this film timed so conveniently with the arrest of director Roman Polanski that the reception of this film seemed to fall into two categories: ‘a triumphant thriller from a master artist’ and/or ‘the new movie by that kiddie-rapist’. Truth be told, »

‘Transporter’ TV Show Filming Early 2011; ‘Taken’ Being Considered

13 December 2010 11:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Unless you're a group of crime scene investigators or police detectives, there's really not that much male-driven action currently on television. Luc Besson is hoping to change that in the coming months. Filming is set to being early next year on a $48 million, 12 part television series based on The Transporter. The films, which starred Jason Statham and were produced by Besson's EuropaCorp, center on a driver who'll transport anything you want, no questions asked. French company Lagardere Entertainment will finance the show and they, reportedly, already have a deal in place with a United States broadcaster. EuropaCorp has already turned one of their franchises into a show, Nikita, and they aren't stopping there. After The Transporter, they're also considering turning the Liam Neeson action vehicle Taken into a TV series, but only after Taken 2 [1] shoots in the Spring. Read more after the jump. Deadline [2] broke the news about the action »

CW to Follow ‘Smallville’ With DC’s ‘Raven’?

6 December 2010 7:33 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Wondering what The CW is going to do once its Man of Steel finally finds his way out of Smallville? Us too. But according to Variety, fellow DC superhero Raven is next on tap for a TV series adaptation.

The network has asked Diego Gutierrez (co-executive producer of V) to write and exec produce. He’s previously worked on Without a Trace, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. At this point only a script has been ordered, so a fully-developed project is tentative at best and at least a year out.

For the uninitiated, the comic version of Raven is the daughter of a human mother and the extra-dimensional demon Trigon (who bears a strong resemblance to pagan representations of the Judeo-Christian Satan).  She’s been an on-again, off-again, member of the…

DC Entertainment Developing A Live-Action 'Raven' Television Series

6 December 2010 6:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

"Smallville" fans are in for some heartbreak when the comic book television show concludes its epic ten year run later next year, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of a new live-action DC Comics show.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. TV and DC Entertainment are teaming together with The CW for "Raven," a new television series based on the character created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

"Raven" centers on Rachel Roth, the daughter of a human and a demon. As an empath, Raven has the unique ability to read emotions and unearth deeply hidden secrets. The character first appeared in "DC Comics Presents" #26 in 1980, and was previously featured in the animated "Teen Titans" series that aired some years ago.

The project has a script order at The CW from writer and executive producer Diego Gutierrez, a seasoned veteran on the television circuit »

DC Comics' heroine Raven lined up to replace Smallville

6 December 2010 3:52 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Smallville is heading towards the end of its 10th and final season on Us network The CW, so what will fill the gap in the TV listings?

The answer: DC Comics superheroine Raven.

Warner Bros Television and DC Entertainment have given the go-ahead for The CW to adapt the character into a new series, according to Variety.

It will be written and executive produced by Diego Gutierrez, who previously worked on Dawson's Creek, Buffy, The Shield, Without A Trace and the V remake.

The network previously tried to create a new series called The Graysons, which would have charted the adventures of Dick Grayson before he became Batman's sidekick Robin. But Warner Bros rejected the concept on the grounds it wouldn't sit comfortably alongside Christopher Nolan's Batman films.

Warner Bros TV and DC Entertainment are also developing a Wonder Woman series, to be written and produced by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, »

The CW developing DC's superheroine Raven for her own TV series

4 December 2010 2:48 PM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

As Smallville winds down on its ten-year long run on The CW Network, the network execs are looking to their little sister company for another superhero property to turn into a TV series. They tried to make a Batman TV show before Smallville, and the after the teenage adventures of Clark Kent proved to be a hit, there was an attempt to do a show based on Batman's kid sidekick Robin called The Greysons. An Aquaman show never got past the pilot stage and while Birds of Prey made it to series, it never got past its first season.

Now The CW is thinking about a solo show featuring a lesser known DC Comics superheroine named Raven. With her mystical, quasi-magical powers and goth-like look and demonor, Raven was a member of the Teen Titans in both the comic book and animated television show incarnations. Her human alias is Rachel Roth, »

Paramount Pictures liked “Out of Range,” a two-book mystery series by CBS’ “Without a Trace” creator Hank Steinberg, so much that it gobbled up the screen rights for a price in the high six figures. Except neither book has been written yet – not even in manuscript form. The deal was made on the basis of a book proposal from the first-time author (pictured).
