News

Hgtv was planning on airing a new house-flipping show, Flip It Forward. However, following a revelation by Right Wing Watch that the proposed show’s hosts had a history of religious bigotry, stalking an abortion doctor and anti-gay activities like protesting pride celebrations. Hgtv has cancelled the show.

Let’s start with the good news. Despite rumors that Fox might give in to the powerful influence of producer Seth MacFarlane, Fox has decided to cancel the offensive, unfunny Dads. Unfortunately, there’s also bad news — the promising and endearing Enlisted (also the Chris Meloni sitcom Surviving Jack, which inspired strong feelings in few people). In worse news for comedy, the network also passed on two promising-sounding pilots, Dead Boss and Fatrick. Fatrick reunited Ray Ford with Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 creator Nahnatchka Kajhan. Dead Boss was a remake of a British comedy with Jane Krakowski and Amy Sedaris. »

'Expendables' star Terry Crews is your new 'Who Wants To Be a Millionaire' host

7 May 2014 6:08 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

New York (AP) — Terry Crews is going in for Cedric The Entertainer as new host of "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire." Crews, an actor, former NFL player and Old Spice pitchman, will join the weekday game show starting this fall, according to its studio, Disney-abc Domestic Television. He replaces comedian Cedric The Entertainer, who's hosting the show in its 12th season in national syndication. Crews has been a regular this season on the freshman Fox sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." His films include Tyler Perry's "The Single Moms Club" and Ivan Reitman's "Draft Day." His first book, "Manhood," will be out this month. Meredith Vieira launched the syndicated version of "Millionaire" in 2002 and remained host for 11 seasons. Regis Philbin emceed the prime-time ABC version from 2000 to 2002. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s’ Terry Crews Named ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ Host

7 May 2014 12:45 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actor Terry Crews has been named the new host of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”

Crews will host the 13th season in the fall from Stamford, Conn. as production is moving to a new studio prior to the start of the 2014-2015 season.

The shooting schedule will not interfere with “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” allowing Crews to shoot “Millionaire” during the comedy’s hiatus.

While Disney and ABC would not confirm whether there are other potential projects in the works for Crews, sources say there may be an even bigger hosting opportunity for the star down the road.

Also joining the long-running franchise is gameshow producer James Rowley. He recently served as executive producer on the truTV series “Killer Karaoke” and “Seriously Funny Kids” for Lifetime.

In the last few months, several networks have been vying to get into business with Crews long-term.

ABC sealed that deal when they offered him the hosting job, »

The i’s have been dotted, the t’s have been crossed, with actor, Old Spice pitchman and former NFL player Terry Crews sealing a deal to become the new host of the syndicated Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for the next 13th season, which launches in the fall. He succeeds Cedric the Entertainer, who hosted the show this season. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is going through a number of changes, some of them cost-saving, heading into the 2014-15 season. Veteran game show and TV producer James Rowley is joining as new executive producer, and production is being moved to Stamford, Connecticut where it is expected to benefit from a tax break. I hear Crews, who co-stars n Fox’s comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, had been exploring doing a syndicated show and met with several studios, with Disney-abc jumping in with the Millionaire offer. “Terry is engaging, »

Cedric the Entertainer leaving 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'

30 April 2014 3:55 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Cedric the Entertainer is leaving the syndicated game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire after only one season as host, EW has confirmed. He replaced Meredith Vieira, who left last year after hosting the show for 11 years.

Cedric cited the show moving its production to Connecticut and his schedule as part of the reason for his exit. “With the many television and film projects that I have going on which shoot and promote in various parts of the country, a production-base in Connecticut would make it quite difficult to maneuver the many moving parts on my plate,” he said in a statement. »

Terry Crews Poised To Become New Host Of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’

30 April 2014 2:59 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Exclusive Updated: I’ve learned that Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Terry Crews is in line to succeed Cedric the Entertainer as host of the syndicated game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. I hear Crews last week reached an agreement for the show, though the deal has not been finalized. Cedric was told of that this past weekend, following his 50th birthday on April 24. The veteran comedian announced today that he would be leaving the show after one season, citing his busy schedule as well as the production’s move to Connecticut, done as a budget-cutting measure. Cost trimming may also have played a role in the show’s host change. Crews is a busy man too, juggling his Fox series, which has been renewed for a second season, and movies including The Expendables franchise. ‘Who Wants To Be Millionaire’ Host Cedric The Entertainer To Depart

30 April 2014 2:22 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Cedric The Entertainer is leaving Disney-abc‘s syndicated game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after a season as a host. There is no replacement yet though I’ve learned that Terry Crews is in line for the gig. Cedric cited his busy schedule and the show’s move to Connecticut for the decision. “With the many television and film projects that I have going on which shoot and promote in various parts of the country, a production-base in Connecticut would make it quite difficult to maneuver the many moving parts on my plate,” he said in a statement. “So, after much thought and some serious conversations with senior executives at the studio, I decided to let Disney-abc know that, unfortunately, I’m not able to continue on as host. It has truly been a fantastic ride hosting Millionaire this year — a really great time! Thanks so much to all the fans, »

The Most Outrageous Moment from Every 'View' Co-Host

I didn't expect to be exhilarated by the news that every former and current cohost of "The View" will come back to the show to join Barbara Walters on her last episode of the series. I really didn't. But for some reason I feel like this is the new "The Last Waltz," an historic summit of superstars that we'll never get again. I can't wait. I'm not even a big "View" watcher and I can't wait.  To celebrate, here are the greatest moments from every former and current "View" co-host. Meredith Vieira hits on an unsuspecting "Millionaire" contestant. Meredith rules. Full stop. She's the reason "The View" got any traction when it began, and she was a fantastic host of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Here, she completely stuns a contestant by hitting him and referring to herself as "a horny old woman." I'm rooting for her to take »

Look out “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy,” because “Family Feud” is on a ratings roll.

The Steve Harvey-hosted show, from producer FremantleMedia North America and distributor Debmar Mercury, hit another milestone the week ending Jan. 26, rising to Nielsen heights the show hasn’t seen in at least 25 years. It also edged out the venerable “Wheel” as the top syndicated gameshow in some key female demos.

According to Nielsen estimates, the nationally syndicated “Family Feud” averaged  a 6.1 household rating — the first time the gameshow has surpassed the 6.0 ratings threshold and its highest number since the advent of Nielsen People Meters in 1988. It was up 7% week-to-week (5.7) and a big 20% vs. the comparable week a year ago (5.1). Overall, the show is up a monster 336% since Harvey became host in September 2010.
