We’ve got another busy week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases on the horizon as August 11th has a great variety of titles both new and old to get excited about. Scream Factory is releasing their Collector’s Edition Blu-ray for Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs and Kino Lorber has dug up another great cult classic, War-Gods of the Deep, and given it an HD overhaul as well. Unfriended is also coming home on Blu and DVD and Universal is finally releasing James Wan’s Dead Silence on Blu-ray, featuring an unrated version of the underrated film. And for all you DC Comics fans out there, get ready for a ton of titles making their debut this week on Blu courtesy of Warner Home Video.

Wondering why some networks have all but given up on creating new sitcoms? Maybe Jim Gaffigan knows the answer.
The stand-up comic, whose sitcom "The Jim Gaffigan Show" debuted on TV Land this week, has been promoting the show with interviews (including here, here, and here) where he explains why he took his new series to basic cable.
According to Gaffigan, each broadcast network tried to shoehorn his autobiographical series into its preferred sitcom format, with less of an eye on what would make the show unique or good and more on what would make it test well with audiences and run long enough to be sold into syndication. International TV distribution-production giant FremantleMedia has tapped Paula Cavalcanti as chief executive officer of FremantleMedia Brazil.
Reporting to Sangeeta Desai, FremantleMedia’s chief operating officer and chief executive officer, emerging markets, Cavalcanti will be responsible for the overall management of the company’s day-to-day operations in Brazil and will focus on the development and production of programming for broadcasters across all platforms, working closely with FremantleMedia’s global production, licensing and sales operations.
Cavalcanti boasts an extensive background in TV production, having most recently served as production director at Brazilian media conglom Bandeirantes Group’s free-to-air channel TV Bandeirantes, and cable TV services Bandsports and Bandnews.
