Commercials Director Justin Reardon Makes Screen Debut With 'Convention'

2 May 2011 7:50 AM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Exclusive: Justin Reardon, whose highlights in commercials include co-creating (and serving as the art director) on the memorable Wassup! and the Howaydoin' campaigns for Budweiser, will make his feature directing debut on Convention, a comedy that will be sold at the Cannes Film Festival by Hollywood Studios International. Scripted by Christopher Painter (The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius) and produced by Paul Schiff and Tai Duncan, Convention takes place at a national packaging convention, where an underachieving inventor unveils his latest creation -- the 5-sided box. It seems like a game-changing innovation, until the inventor learns that each time he makes the special fold involved in assembling the box, he's ripping a small hole in the universe. If the invention takes hold, it might end the world. The film will begin production in the fall, with Hsi chairman/CEO Steven Saxton and Hsi president Eric Christenson exec producing. ICM »

Steven Banks ("SpongeBob Squarepants," "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius") has been hired to pen Arnold Schwarzenegger's upcoming "The Governator" animated series. "Throughout my career, whether it has been in body building, movies or politics, my philosophy has always been to bring together the best specialized talent to create projects that people will love," said Schwarzenegger. "Having Steven on board to head up the writing for 'The Governator' series is a fantastic next step." The series follows an animated Schwarzenegger who, after leaving office in California, takes on a secret identity as a crime-fighting superhero, with the help of an elite squad of teenagers. »

Steven Banks hired to lead writing team for The Governator

18 April 2011 4:07 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Steven Banks has been hired to lead the writing team for The Governator. We shared the trailer for the 52-episode series will feature the voice and animated image of Arnold Schwarzenegger as a super hero bent on beating the bad guys and the forces of evil. Earlier we reported that the TV show was created with input from Stan Lee, and that it will eventually lead to a 3D feature film.

Here is what Arnie had to say about the project:

When I ran for governor back in 2003 and I started hearing people talking about ‘the Governator,’ I thought the word was so cool. The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies

The trailer looks Horrible, I don't think that Banks hiring as a writer will be able to save this show. »

Briefly: As the giant 'Wtf?' of Arnold Schwarzenegger's animated series The Governator continues to crawl towards release, we're getting a few new details. We know that the icon is returning to entertainment with the show, which follows a politician-turned-superhero, that the show was created with the input of Stan Lee, and that it will eventually lead to a 3D feature film [1]. Now Steven Banks has been hired to lead the writing team for the show. His primary credits include a long stint on SpongeBob Squarepants and head writer credit on The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Does that mean The Governator will be more light-hearted and fun than we've expected? Truthfully, probably not. The trailer [2] already suggested that anyone older than eight shouldn't expect much here, and Arnie has explained that, It takes my entire career, basically, whether it is bodybuilding, action movies, if it is the governorship, »
