Hulu Gets ‘Inside Amy Schumer,’ Other Viacom Shows Exclusively in Major New Pact

Hulu has doubled the amount of content it is licensing from Viacom, with an expanded pact giving the Internet TV service exclusive subscription VOD rights to all past and future seasons of Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Key and Peele,” along with other shows.

Other titles exclusively on Hulu under the multiyear agreement include: Comedy Central’s “Broad City” and “Drunk History”; MTV’s “Faking It” and “Finding Carter”; and Nickelodeon’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Rabbids Invasion” and “Sanjay and Craig.”

Since Hulu inked its first significant deal with Viacom in 2011, “our relationship has only grown,” said Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins. “Today, we are not only extending our deal, but we are adding more premium content than ever from their popular family of networks.”

The new Viacom series will be available only to Hulu subscribers, either on the $7.99 monthly plan with ads or the $11.99-per-month ad-free option

Nickelodeon Vet Marjorie Cohn to Run DreamWorks Animation Television

Now that it has 1,200 hours of original programming to produce for distributors like Netflix and Super Rtl over the next five years, DreamWorks Animation has tapped veteran Nickelodeon executive Marjorie Cohn to run its new television division.

The New York native has spent the past 26 years at Nickelodeon in various development and production roles. While there, she helped make Nickelodeon the No. 1 cable channel for 18 consecutive years. She’s leaving the company as president, content development where she oversaw both animated and live action series including “SpongeBob Squarepants,” “Rugrats,” “iCarly,” “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius,” “The Fairly OddParents” and the “Kids’ Choice Awards.”

She will now ramp up production of DreamWorks Animation’s TV series — a significant area of growth for the toon studio. Dwa-chief Jeffrey Katzenberg sees TV as both a significant revenue stream as well as a key way to grow the appeal of its brands

Comedienne Phyllis Diller Dead at 95

Phyllis Diller, who was considered the first American woman to become known on a national level for stand-up comedy, died Monday in Los Angeles. She was 95. Diller got her first national TV exposure in 1950 as a contestant on Groucho Marx's quiz show "You Bet Your Life." She was particularly popular in the '60s and '70s, appearing on the top comedy, quiz and variety shows of the day, including "What's My Line?," "The Andy Williams Show," "Get Smart" and "The Carol Burnett Show." Her first film role was in William Inge's "Splendor in the Grass" (1961), starring Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood. More recently, Diller appeared on such TV shows as "Boston Legal," "The Drew Carey Show," "7th Heaven" and soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful." Actress and comedienne Phyllis Diller, a groundbreaking performer who paved the way for female comedians everywhere, passed away in her sleep this morning, at her Los Angeles home. She was 95 years old at the time of her death. Here is what her agent Fred Wostbrock had to say about her iconic career.

"She was a true pioneer. She was the first lady of stand up comedy. She paved the way for everybody. And she conquered television, movies, Broadway, record albums, nightclubs, books, and radio. She did it all. A true pioneer."

Nick makes room for more 'Avatar'

Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender has joined the ranks of such Nickelodeon staples as SpongeBob SquarePants and Jimmy Neutron. The kid-centric cable channel is elevating the uniquely stylized anime show from its once-a-week slot to weeknights at 6:30 beginning Sept. 25. Along with the increase in airtime, Avatar will be backed by a larger online initiative. "What's special about 'Avatar' is that it delivers on so many levels," said Marjorie Cohn, executive vp development and original programming at Nickelodeon. "It's a legend and lore show with gorgeous animation and a deep and authentic feel to the story while delivering fantasy fulfillment, a sense of place and even humor."
