Nickelodeon nearing Spears series

Nickelodeon is close to greenlighting a 13-episode order for a series starring Jamie Lynn Spears, little sister to pop superstar Britney Spears. Dan Schneider (The Amanda Show) will executive produce the live-action comedy, which is set at a boarding school. The untitled series is expected to join Nick's primetime lineup at an unspecified time next year with Spears, who already serves as a cast member on the Nick sketch comedy series All That. Nickelodeon declined comment. In other Nick news, the network announced additional episode orders for four returning series -- The Fairly OddParents (30 episodes), The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius (10), ChalkZone (10), My Life as a Teenage Robot (13) -- and the new Rugrats spinoff All Grown Up (22). Spears is repped by CAA. »

Regency nabs 'Bagloria'

Regency Enterprises is dipping into the fantasy genre, acquiring Kirby Atkins' script Bagloria with helmer Robert Lederman attached to direct and Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca on board to produce. The project, described as a cross between The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Harry Potter, centers on a group of kids who find a portal in their classroom closet to a fantasy world called Bagloria. When their teacher is pulled inside, the kids must brave the inhabitants of this world to rescue their teacher and save the school. At Regency, executive vp production Peter Cramer is overseeing for production topper Sanford Panitch. The Tribeca-produced Compleat Female Stage Beauty is in postproduction for Artisan Entertainment. Lederman has directed episodes of The Dead Zone, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Atkins is repped by Broder-Webb-Chervin-Silbermann, Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and attorney Stephen Clark at Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Goodman. He previously penned Spooks, which sold to Miramax Films, and has been working on TV episodes of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. »

MTV taps Randisi for consumer products post

CANNES -- MTV has appointed former Saban Europe consumer products managing director Jean-Philippe Randisi to the post of president and general manager, consumer products Europe, it was announced Monday. Randisi will be responsible for establishing an MTV Networks international consumer office in Europe and will be charged with expanding the licensing and merchandising businesses behind the range of MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon properties, including key franchises Rugrats, Blue's Clues and Jimmy Neutron. »
