The Tree Of Life Director’s Cut Is Imminent, Voyage Of Time Coming Soon

3 May 2013 8:35 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

One of the criticisms that The Tree of Life incurred throughout its run is that it just wasn’t long enough. Proving that he is nothing if not malleable to the whims of a fickle audience, director Terrence Malick has announced that he plans to create a director’s cut of the impressive (but already pretty indulgent) film.

After a potted and uneven history, with long gaps between projects, the enigmatic filmmaker has suddenly rekindled some kind of weird filmic mojo and has three projects on the go besides this director’s cut. He’s working on Knight of Cups with Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett, another as-of-yet untitled film with Ryan Gosling, and his latest film To The Wonder, starring Ben Affleck and Olga Kurylenko, was released in the Us on April 12th to middling reviews. He is also working on a documentary called Voyage of Time, to be released next year. »

William Monahan may adapt A Delicate Truth

25 April 2013 2:05 AM, PDT | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

John Le Carré's A Delicate Truth novel could be adapted by talented William Monahan. The Ink Factory is apparently in advanced talks with the writer of The Departed, Kingdom of Heaven, Edge of Darkness and the upcoming Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The story follows a man trying to uncover a conspiracy concerning a counter-terror operation and sources say that this is being developed with BBC Films. The book actually finds releases release today, April 25th. Deadline's managed to find a trailer which teases the book. Thanks for that. There's no doubt that Monahan fits this project perfectly. Now off to casting, who will fit into what? »

Satan Actor Reacts To Obama Comparison

9 April 2013 6:06 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Casablanca, Morocco — Mehdi Ouazzani isn't the devil, but he has played one on TV – only he didn't realize that some thought he looked like President Barack Obama while he was at it.

A veteran Moroccan actor with decades of film experience, Ouazzani was bemused to wake up one morning and find that his role in The History Channel's popular five-part miniseries "The Bible" had become the latest way for conservative commentators in the United States to needle the president.

"One morning somebody called me and said `you have to look at your email' and I was so surprised," Ouazzani told The Associated Press in Casablanca before jetting off to the remote desert town of Erfoud, where he's playing a police inspector in a German crime drama.

"For someone like me, a simple unknown actor, to find himself in a controversy like this – even though it's nonsense – it makes me known around the world, »

Argo and the Search for Historical Authenticity

21 March 2013 10:52 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock since the Oscars, you’ve heard about the controversies surround Argo’s (lack of) historical accuracy. Whether it’s Iran threatening to sue Ben Affleck and George Clooney, Canada feeling relegated to postscript of history, or most recently the parliament in New Zealand motioning that Affleck “saw fit to mislead the world about what actually happened;” people seem to be having a hissy fit about the way in which Argo represented their countries.  Even my own university newspaper saw fit to call on Canadians to not spend money on films from Hollywood that, “both demote and falsely epitomize Canada.”

Anger about historical accuracy in film is not limited to Argo.  We can all recall Spike Lee’s criticism of Django Unchained for making a Spaghetti Western out of slavery. Prior to that we can go to Mel Gibson and The Patriot where »

Will Christian Bale Play Moses in Ridley Scott's Exodus?

15 March 2013 12:55 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

It looks like Fox is gearing up to get Ridley Scott's Moses movie Exodus into production as soon as they can. According to Deadline the studio and director are looking to get Christian Bale on board to play the legendary prophet. It's not set in stone, but it sounds like they'll take him if they can get him.

Scott is looking to jump on the project as soon as he's finished with The Counselor. The original script for the film was written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, and a rewrite was just completed by Steve Zaillian. The script has the studio excited to get rolling.

There's no details on what part of the biblical story the film will focus on, but I imagine it will be the big epic part of him freeing his people from bondage. Scott is the perfect director for this, I love the period »

Jon Finch

13 January 2013 4:05 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Charismatic star of Polanski's Macbeth and Hitchcock's Frenzy

In the 1970s, it seemed a sure bet that the actor Jon Finch, who has died aged 71, would become a durable film star of some magnitude. He had the dark good looks, the voice, the charisma and the opportunities. At the beginning of his film career, he played the title role in Roman Polanski's The Tragedy of Macbeth (1971) and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy (1972). Around the same time he was offered the chance to replace Sean Connery as James Bond in Live and Let Die (1973). The fact that Finch turned the part down stupefied many commentators.

That Finch never achieved the level of stardom that was anticipated may be attributed to his dislike of the kind of media publicity that goes with it and his self-proclaimed lack of ambition. "I never wanted to be a big star," Finch once said. »

Actor Jon Finch Dead at 70 – Starred in Hitchcock’s Frenzy

11 January 2013 10:15 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

His two most famous film roles were as the man wrongly accused of being the ‘necktie strangler’ in Alfred Hitchcock’s Frenzy (1972), the director’s last great film, and the title role in Roman Polanski’s MacBeth in 1971. He may be best known for the role he turned down: that of James Bond when Cubby Broccoli was looking for a handsome British actor to replace Sean Connery for 1973′s Live And Let Die. Earlier in his career, actor Jon Finch had appeared in the Hammer horror films The Vampire Lovers and The Horror Of Frankenstein. He also starred in the end-of-the-world sci-fi saga The Last Days Of Man On Earth (1973) from cult director Robert Fuest (The Abominable Dr. Phibes). He was married for several years to Catrinoa MacColl, who worked regularly with director Lucio Fulci in films including The Beyond and House By The Cemetery. Finch’s final role was »
