The trailer for The Great Gatsby has hit and the internet is aflutter. Personally, I think it looks like an over-designed mess that may end up ignoring its characters altogether in the interest of showcasing some over-the-top parties. Moulin Rouge! filtered through Party Monster, if you will. However, it is a wonderful excuse to talk about Baz Luhrmann’s other 2012 project. In conjunction with the Metropolitan Museum’s new exhibition Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations the Australian director has produced a series of bite-sized short films. Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli sit across a dark dining room table, discussing fashion. The latter designer, who died 39 years ago, is played by Judy Davis. The shorts are featured in the museum’s exhibition...

Well, in some alternate Quentin Dupieux universe, full of non-sequiturs and ironic detachment, this completely makes sense. Fresh off news of the Cannes Directors' Fortnight line-up earlier today, which listed Dupieux's short film "Wrong Cops" alongside many other exciting offerings, it seems the director found fit to reveal his star on Twitter.
“Wrong Cops (Chapter 1) starring Marilyn Manson!” tweeted Dupieux earlier today, raising a number of questions with just one sentence. The notion of additional short films based in the project's world, the ambiguity as to whether the film ties in with his festival film “Wrong” which premiered at Sundance in January, as well as just that casting announcement in general. Manson is actually no stranger to acting, having taken roles in “Party Monster,” “Jawbreaker,” and David Lynch's “Lost Highway,” so he's more than capable of handling whatever out-there material Dupieux has thrown his way.

While the lion’s share of awards shows air live — that’s part of the what’s-going-to-happen appeal! — Logo’s NewNowNext Awards are taped in advance, cut up a little bit, and then aired a few days later. So what you’ll see when the show comes on tonight at 10 p.m. — right after a new, and tragic (because of the heartbreaking elimination) episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race — went down last Thursday evening at Hollywood’s Avalon nightclub. EW was on the scene for the festivities and took a few notes to whet your appetite for tonight:

Each week within this column we strive to pair the latest in theatrical releases to worthwhile titles currently streaming on Netflix Instant Watch. This week we offer alternatives to Being Flynn, The Snowtown Murders, and Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie.
This Friday theaters will be filled with pairs of men, from a couple of kooky comedians, to an estranged father-son team, and a duo of deadly Aussies. But if these new releases aren’t enough to satisfy your craving for chills, laughs and heartwarming moments, we’ve got you covered with some of the best selections Now Streaming.
Based on Nick Flynn’s poignant memoir, this drama centers on his time volunteering at a homeless shelter, and how it led to an unexpected reunion with his estranged father. Paul Dano and Robert De Niro co-star; Paul Weitz directs.

Phew! The we were worried for a minute there, when we first took a gander at the pics Entertainment Tonight acquired of Macaulay Culkin, looking, um, rather unwell. But! “Macaulay Culkin is in perfectly good health,” his rep told Et. And to Us Weekly, the rep went even further: “Macaulay Culkin is in perfectly good health. For Entertainment Tonight or any other media to speculate otherwise is thoughtless, irresponsible and destructive.”
Well, yeah, but it’s kind of hard not to speculate when you can see the guy’s skull through his skin. And we were just concerned for the boy we grew up with. And we are kind of mad at him for ruining that. Well, not really. The guy’s 32. And he has done his darndest to break away from his adorable image by getting married at 17, getting arrested for drug possession, playing demented club kid Michael Alig »

Remember Haley Joel Osment, the adorable/creepy kid from The Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward? He’s making a comeback in Sassy Pants and trying his darndest to make a new impression on a public that hasn’t seen him in a feature film since 2003 when he starred Secondhand Lions.
In the new independent comedy, he plays Chip, a young, hard-partying gay man who forms a relationship with his much older boyfriend’s naïve daughter. The bold career move reminds me of Macaulay Culkin, another former child star who tried to make the difficult transition into adult stardom by reemerging in edgy projects like Party Monster and the religious comedy Saved!. While it didn’t exactly work for Culkin, hopefully Osment’s makes a much more successful re-introduction on Jan. 28, the day when Sassy Pants premieres at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent cinema festival in the United States. Held in January in Park City, Salt Lake City, the festival is a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. The Festival has changed over the decades from a low-profile venue for small-budget, independent creators from outside the Hollywood system to a media extravaganza for Hollywood celebrity actors, paparazzi, and luxury lounges set up by companies that are not affiliated with Sundance.
Now the festival is getting ready for the 2012 edition and today they announced the jury members for this year’s Festival. They include Shari Berman, Scott Burns, Charles Ferguson, Nick Fraser, Mike Judge, Justin Lin, Anthony Mackie, Cliff Martinez, Julia Ormond, Dee Rees and Lynn Shelton.
Here is the official press release:
