This May Be Your Last Weekend to Watch Movies as Rogue Planet Theories Heat Up

Numerologists are claiming that this could be the last weekend on Earth, so you might as well hit the movies. There are plenty of classics and new movies in theaters right now to keep you busy before the end of days. Conspiracy theorists are claiming that a rogue planet will disrupt Earth's orbit this Sunday and bring about a series of catastrophic earthquakes that could decimate life as we know it. Nibiru, also known as Planet X, was originally supposed to destroy our world on September 23rd according to a Christian numerologist who said it was to collide with Earth, but obviously that didn't happen.

Now the same conspiracy theorists predict that this weekend will be the end of life as we know it and many are hitting the movie theaters to take their minds off of the impending doom. While Justice League is currently number one, it has had

Review: Geostorm (2017)

Despite sounding like a weekday afternoon SyFy film, Geostorm comes tearing into cinemas and while hopes were not particularly high, I was at least anticipating a fun slice of natural disaster movie mayhem. Shockingly not directed by master of disaster Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012), this film instead comes from Independence Day and Godzilla (1998) co-writer Dean Devlin. Unfortunately the end result is less knowing than any of the aforementioned and is a disaster in all the wrong ways.

Look, nobody was expecting Birdman here, or a deeply layered look at the impact of global warming, we were expecting a Gerard Butler led romp that was preposterous but hopefully fun with it. However, what I never expected in a million years was to be criticising Geostorm for not having enough extreme weather action scenes! Practically all of the films money shots have filled out the trailers and TV spots,

Movie Review – Geostorm (2017)

Geostorm, 2017.

Directed by Dean Devlin.

Starring Gerard Butler, Katheryn Winnick, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Andy Garcia, Zazie Beetz, and Ed Harris.

When the network of satellites designed to control the global climate start to attack Earth, it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone.

There is absolutely no reason for Geostorm to exist. It’s bunkum and plays like The Day After Tomorrow for those who feel intellectually inferior to Roland Emmerich. It’s Armageddon for those who thought it subtle, 2012 for those with a hankering for trashy political intrigue, it’s an end of the world pic that demands the audience to beckon for the end of days. It’s dull, imbecilic, grossly misjudged, yet momentarily, as towers fall, great floods thrash ravines and fires burn through snow, it distracts – briefly – from an impending doom

Is climate change Hollywood's new supervillain?

Eco-thriller Geostorm, with Gerard Butler as a weather-busting scientist, is the latest movie to battle the environment. From Blade Runner 2049 to Alexander Payne’s Downsizing, film are turning up the heat on the big screen

In 2004, when climate change was still called global warming, it was considered sensational enough to get top billing in The Day After Tomorrow, a city-smashing blockbuster by disaster master Roland Emmerich. But the incremental death march of the real thing was considered a little too slow for Independence Day’s king of kablooey. So impatient was he to bring forth a biblical flood and subsequent ice age that was epic enough to swallow the Statue of Liberty, Emmerich conspired to make his cataclysm happen in days, not decades, courtesy of a cosmically unlucky (and scientifically unlikely) flash freeze.

Final Trailer For Gerard Butler Disaster Movie ‘Geostorm’ [Watch]

  • The Playlist
The directorial debut of producer Dean Devlin (“Independence Day”) was always going to draw sneers from disaster-movie haters. Yet Devlin’s long-delayed, wannabe blockbuster “Geostorm” risks failing to live up to the presumably low expectations of fans of films like “2012” and “The Day After Tomorrow.”

Geostorm” stars Gerard Butler as a scientist battling an environmental disaster caused by a malfunctioning satellite system.

10 Actors Who Were Almost in Doctor Strange
It was a beautiful validation for comic book fans everywhere when the Marvel Cinematic Universe grew so unstoppable that some of the trippiest and hardest-to-adapt characters were finally able to star in their own franchises, with A-list actors to boot. None have been weirder than Doctor Strange. And now, It's hard to imagine anyone other than Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of the Sorcerer Supreme, who Steve Ditko and Stan Lee introduced in the pages of Strange Tales back in the summer of 1963. But things could have turned out a lot different.

As things got cooking for Marvel's Phase 3, there were a slew of big name actors in contention for the magical role of Doctor Stephen Strange. And a few A listers came very close to signing that contract. As Marvel puts it, Benedict Cumberbatch was always the first choice. But we're not so sure about that, as one particular

Hurricane Irma Proves “The Day After Tomorrow” is the Most Accurate Natural Disaster Movie

The sudden surge of natural disasters is turning a lot of heads these days since Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and now Hurricane Irma has come in right on its heels. This is making many people wonder what might be happening in our environment and why these disasters are coming with such frequency. It’s also making a lot of people think that movies such as The Day After Tomorrow are more on point than anyone might want to believe. Chinese Film Fund Bets $100M on Hollywood Directors Amid Fraught U.S. Relations

Chinese Film Fund Bets $100M on Hollywood Directors Amid Fraught U.S. Relations
China might be escalating its crackdown on investment into Hollywood, but at least one bold film company with Middle Kingdom roots is forging ahead undeterred.

Starlight Culture Entertainment Group, a China-backed firm with offices in Hong Kong and Beverly Hills, has launched a $100 million development fund to enlist veteran Hollywood directors. And the company has already discretely done a series of deals with an impressive roster of in-demand filmmakers, including F. Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious, Straight Outta Compton), Roland Emmerich (Independence Day: Resurgence, The Day After Tomorrow) and Jon M. Chu (Now You See Me 2,...

Second trailer for disaster epic ‘Geostorm’

Warner Bros. have released a new trailer for their disaster flick Geostorm, which stars Gerard Butler, Katheryn Winnick, Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Andy Garcia and Ed Harris. Directed by Dean Devlin, the film sees the world’s weather go haywire after the satellites controlling the weather are hacked, wreaking havoc across the planet. Looks like a combination of every Roland Emmerich disaster film rolled into one outrageous package if you ask me… 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, even Independence Day (given that its a force “outside” Earth causing the problems).

When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth’s very survival, world governments unite to create a global network of satellites armed with technologies designed to stave off natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for years, something goes wrong. Two estranged brothers must repair the program’s malfunction before a worldwide Geostorm engulfs the planet.

Geostorm will be released on October 20th.

Skydance have released a new apocalyptic trailer from the upcoming Geostorm with Gerard Butler.

Geostorm looks to be in an eco apocalypse film in the best tradition of Roland Emmerich (Read: The Day after Tomorrow, 2012) which is not surprising considering it was directed by long time Emmerich collaborator, Dean Devlin.

First Sharknado 5: Global Swarming Teaser Trailer Targets The World’s Most Famous Monuments

Thanks to his decorated career behind the lens, Roland Emmerich is often credited as Hollywood’s master of cinematic destruction. From 2012 to Independence Day to The Day After Tomorrow, moviegoers have witnessed Emmerich tear Earth’s monuments asunder (often twice!), but August heralds a new pretender to the throne of ridiculously over-the-top spectacle: Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.

Of course, whereas Roland Emmerich’s movies tend to be more serious in tone (“the neutrinos are mutating!”), Syfy’s cult Sharknado franchise embraces its zany, irreverent nature wholeheartedly, and we’re pleased to report that that satirical streak will continue with the launch of Global Swarming on August 6th.

In order to ramp up excitement, the network has today unleashed the bonkers first teaser trailer, which targets many of the world’s most famous monuments. Returning for another helping of ‘nado action are Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) and his bionic wife, April

Roland Emmerich confirmed to take the helm on World War II project Midway

Author: Zehra Phelan

Cannes Film Festival yesterday saw another unveiling. Independence Day director, Roland Emmerich, has officially been confirmed to take the helm of the World War II project, Midway, which he will also co-produce.

The Battle of Midway in the South Pacific was a decisive naval battle in June 1942, six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. The U.S. Navy defeated an attacking fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy near Midway Atoll after U.S. codebreakers were able to pinpoint the time and place of the attack. The damage to the Japanese fleet was so extensive that it never recovered and military historians regard the battle as a turning point in the war.

This won’t be the first time The Battle of Midway has been covered on film, back in 1976, Universal’s epic “Midway,” starring Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Glenn Ford, Hal Holbrook, Toshiro Mifune,
