A shame it's lost.

"Out of the Trees" was originally intended to be a comedy sketch show, in which the theme for each sketch would be triggered by a pair of linguists who would comment about a given word and its origins. Only one episode of "Out of the Trees" was actually filmed, and the video sections of it (supposedly introductions and most sketches) were wiped somewhere in the late seventies, so all that survived of the show were the filmed sections, and were later included in some DVD editions of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" TV series.

One of the filmed sketches that survived was called "Severance of a Peony", and it starred Simon Jones in what would later become the initial idea for "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". The sketch started with Simon Jones' character and his girlfriend cutting off a peony from the front yard of an unknown house. This action lead to the arrival at the scene of two policemen wanting to arrest Jones' character. The policemen, finding Jones 'a difficult one', would then call upon their sergeant, and so on. More people would arrive at the scene, and as an ultimate consequence of that series of events, the Earth would blow up.

The show was premiered on a Saturday night, which coupled with the extremely low promotion it had, resulted in its disappearance, although a second episode had already been written.
