Paramount and DreamWorks Pictures 2009 Picture Preview

30 December 2008 11:40 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Paramount Pictures has just unveiled their 2009 preview and in rather lackluster form I may say as new images from anticipated features such as Martin Scorese's Shutter Island, Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones and Star Trek were nowhere to be found. Fanboy favorites such as G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen also saw zilch in the updated imagery department. We do, however, have new pics from Eddie Murphy's next kid flick, the previously titled Nowhereland, now labeled as Imagine That and to be honest that is about as exciting as it gets in the updates department. All the cast, director and synopsis information is listed over the course of the next few pages as well as all the release dates for 15 new features. Surprisingly enough, only one of them is actual a Paramount Pictures solo release as the majority of these belong to their previous partner DreamWorks. »

Paramount Pictures and IMAX Corporation announced late Friday that Star Trek, directed by J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III, Lost and Alias), will be simultaneously released to both IMAX and conventional theatres worldwide on May 8, 2009. Star Trek, which chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow Uss Enterprise crew members, will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX Dmr (Digital Re-mastering) technology. Paramount Pictures will be the exclusive distributor of the film to IMAX theatres worldwide.

Star Trek is of course one of the world’s most successful science fiction entertainment series and media franchises. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the Star Trek phenomenon has lead to six television series, ten feature films, dozens of computer and video games, hundreds of novels and fan stories, as well as a themed attraction in Las Vegas. Star Trek To Be Digitally Re-Mastered For IMAX

12 December 2008 3:29 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

More Star Trek news today: It’s been officially announced that the new Star Trek movie will be released in IMAX in addition to standard 35mm film.

Guess which format I’ll be watching it in?

I’m a Huge fan of IMAX (no pun intended). In ascending order (excluding the quality of the movie being watched) here is my “movie experience scale”:

Standard 35mm film projection. Digital 35mm film projection. Digital 3D film projection. 70mm IMAX projection. 3D IMAX projection. Yes, I know - some of you hate 3D and others aren’t fans of IMAX… but this is My list of escalating movie theater experience nirvana.

Now the problem with showing Star Trek in IMAX, you may say, is that it wasn’t shot using 70mm film and the special cameras required. Ah, but there is a solution to that: They don’t just blow up the »

Another Two Star Trek Posters - Uhura and Nero

21 November 2008 3:48 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Paramount has released the next two posters in the on-going black and white series of Star Trek posters. A few weeks ago we got to see the first two posters of Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Now we've got one of Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Eric Bana as the Romulan villain Nero. This means we'll probably see more black and white posters for the last four crew members (Bones, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov) eventually as well. I really dig the look of these posters, but for some odd reason I would want to have either of these two up on my walls. Does Eric Bana look like one hell of a badass Romulan or what? Click on either of the posters to head to the official website to download wallpapers and more. Star Trek is directed by J.J. Abrams (of "Lost" and Mission: Impossible III »

'Star Trek' engages promo drive

20 November 2008 6:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Paramount already has hit warp speed with its high-profile relaunch of the "Star Trek" franchise.

For its first 2009 tentpole, the studio has taken the unprecedented step of rolling out a full-scale promotional tour of the J.J. Abrams-directed "Star Trek" nearly six months before its May 8 release.

Despite "Trek's" indisputable cultural brand and avid fan base, the filmmakers and the studio hope to bypass two potential obstacles on the way to blockbuster boxoffice returns: the MySpace generation's unfamiliarity with the series and genre and the franchise's typically anemic performance in the global market.

" 'Star Trek,' especially in the foreign territories, is perceived as one thing," Abrams told The Hollywood Reporter. "Paramount thought it was really important to get it out there and show them that it's another."

On Wednesday, Abrams made a good-natured, enthusiastic, 25-minute presentation to a crowd of invited journalists, executives and studio employees in a theater on the Paramount lot. »
