F. Gary Gray's Fast 8 is going to be visiting a number of locales. Two of those are near and dear to me: New York (my home) and Cuba, where the maternal half of my family comes from. Pretty cool.

The production is currently Cuba, and are celebrating their arrival on the island nation with this video that includes Gray and a bevy of Cuban ladies. Here it is:

According to Deadline, Theron has just inked a deal to join the cast of the latest installment in the blockbuster "Fast & Furious" series. There are no details yet about just what her role entails, though the trade notes that she'll be playing "a new character."

The role will reunite Theron with her "The Italian Job" director F. Gary Gray, who's helming "Fast 8." She'll join returning stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Jason Statham.

As Deadline notes, Theron's casting continues a recent trend for the venerable "Fast" franchise, which has added more high-profile names to its ensemble -- including now-regulars Johnson and Statham -- in its last few outings in order to inject some new life into the series. »

According to Variety, Theron is on board for the eighth iteration of the car chase movies - this one called Fast 8. While it’s uncertain what her exact role will be, the publication is reporting that she’ll be a villain fighting against Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez among others. The movie will be shot by F. Gary Gray, who previously directed Theron in the 2003 movie The Italian Job. Since the franchise began in 2001, the Fast movies have raked in more than $3.8 billion.  Furious 7 alone delivered $1.5 billion worldwide. The next (but certainly not the last) installment is slated for an April 2017 release. »

Charlize Theron Sought For Villain Role In 'Fast 8'

10 February 2016 7:18 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

While Universal's "Fast & Furious" franchise is winding down, with three more movies to go (at least for now), don't think for a second they aren't going to try to make each one bigger than the last. And for "Fast 8," they've got their eyes on a major talent to play the villain. Deadline reports that the filmmakers are seeking out "Mad Max: Fury Road" star Charlize Theron to play the villain in "Fast 8." If it seems like an outlandish idea, Theron has previously worked with director F. Gary Gray on "The Italian Job," and apparently her schedule is open, so she could take the role if she wanted. This is also the studio that nabbed Tom Cruise to star in "The Mummy" and Johnny Depp to play "The Invisible Man." And no doubt, after enduring the tough shoot of 'Fury Road,' facing the testosterone of Vin Diesel and his crew should be no sweat. »

'Fast 8' Eyeing Oscar-Winning Actress To Play Villain

10 February 2016 6:59 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Fast 8 is getting ready to race into production, as the Universal franchise prepares to launch a final trilogy of films based on the adventures of Dominic Torreto and his band of merry misfits. But just who will they be facing off against this time around, in a film that will take place in locations like New York and Iceland?

According to a report from Deadline, the film's director and screenwriter are looking to land Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron. The actress is currently riding a very positive wave of buzz thanks to her bad ass turn in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, and she'd be a very high-profile "get" for the production.

Something that could aide in landing her is that director F. Gary Gray already has a rapport with the actress, thanks to their work together on his The Italian Job. As of now, she's who they're »

Charlize Theron wanted for villain role in Fast 8

Fast & Furious 8: Charlize Theron targeted for villain role

Might Charlize Theron move from Mad Max: Fury Road to the next Fast & Furious movie?

Now this would be a sizeable casting coup. Once Vin Diesel is done shooting xXx 3, he's got the small matter of filming Fast & Furious 8. We already know that F Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Italian Job remake) is directing this time, and that the shoot will take the series to New York and Cuba.

Now? Charlize Theron is being targeted for a key role in the film.

Theron spearheaded last year's stunning Mad Max: Fury Road, of course, and in Fast & Furious 8 she'd be playing the villain. There's one main villain in the movie, and the character will be female. Theron hasn't yet seen a script though, it seems, and it's unclear yet whether joining the franchise would be the kind of role that interests her.

Production begins in the next few months, »

Fast 8 Is Making A Major Change With Its Villain

9 February 2016 5:44 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Fast 8 won't be revving its engines in theaters until next summer, which means there's plenty of time to pop open the hood and retool Universal's franchise before taking it out for another spin. One key component, the film's villain, looks to be undergoing a massive overhaul, as it looks like Dominic Toretto and his crew will be facing down a female antagonist. While we previously thought Jason Statham's Fast 7 baddie Deckard Shaw would be returning, it appears that early word surrounding F. Gary Grey's sequel would be pegging a "lone female" as the cause of the Fast 8 team's woes. Even more exciting is the fact that Deadline mentioned a candidate the studio has in mind for the role, and it's none other than Academy Award winner / road goddess Charlize Theron, who had previously collaborated with Grey in 2003's The Italian Job. Fast 8 To Have A Sole Female Villain

9 February 2016 4:33 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Though the script isn’t even complete, we’re already hearing reports on the plot for Fast 8. We may not know a whole lot just yet, but today, Deadline is reporting that the film will feature a “fierce female villain” as the sole antagonist.

Director F. Gary Gray and writer Chris Morgan already have their eye on a particular actress for the role as well: Charlize Theron. Deadline says that given that she’s coming off a tremendous performance in Mad Max: Fury Road and has worked with Gray before on The Italian Job, she’d be a solid candidate. Unfortunately, though, nothing has been confirmed at this time.

Seeing as The Fast and the Furious is one of the most testosterone heavy franchises around, it’s certainly welcome to hear that the eighth instalment will be featuring a strong female character for the villain. It’ll mark a »

Fast & Furious 8 Adds Iceland To Its List of Locales

27 January 2016 7:03 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

The Fast & Furious series has certainly evolved over the years. While it started with a film that centered on a small gang of street racers in California, it has grown to become a franchise that rivals the James Bond series in terms of exotic locales it visits.

For the 8th entry in the franchise, we've already learned that Dominic Toretto and his merry band of adrenaline junkies will be visiting New York for the first time. Now word has broken that the production will also be making a stop in Iceland.

According to Visir, the production is set to film in the port town of Akranes this spring. The town's Mayor, Regina Ásvaldsdóttir, says that she expects the Fast & Furious 8 crew to arrive in April. They'll also be filming in one other Icelandic location that is, at this point, unknown.

If you are anything like me you couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel of a car. I remember being lucky enough to get my first car before I was even old enough to learn to drive (thanks to my parents). Most of that excitement was based on growing up watching classic driving movies and wanting to experience the thrill of the open road.

Of course, the reality of driving is very different and staying safe and knowing the laws of the road were very important for mine and my friends’ enjoyment. This is the important groundwork needed to make the dream comes true.

If anything the dream of the driving movies spurs you on to do all that important work. So, where should you look for inspiration that will stick with you? Here are some of my greatest driving films of all time:
