Interesting story told with all the ability of a poor episode of Jackanory - a wasted opportunity
bob the moo1 May 2002
A salesman tries to juggle the stress of his job with his increasing alcoholism, while his long hours away from home mean his family life has all but collapsed in the quest for sales.

The world of salesmen is not a dull one - it can make a great story (check out Glengary Glenross). So surely a short would be even better as it would give the story a greater punch due to being more concise. The story is interesting at first, mixing a to-the-camera monologue on the virtues of being a good salesman, with the reality of the live. However the story fails by focusing on the drinking rather than the stress of the job. This means that it could be any job.

The film makes it's point about alcoholism by having spinning scenes of the salesman downing one pint after another. This means that instead of being interesting it becomes boring and nothing special. The clumsy use of visuals takes away from the interesting character - instead of him we get quickly edited scenes pasted together like a poor pop video and scene after scene of drinking.

The simplistic way the story is told means that it really is wasted, what could have been an interesting look at a stressed out salesman who has to deal with it turns into a pop video looking at alcoholism.

Boring, childish and pointless - I expect better from the Film/Four stable.
