Only marginally better than its hit predecessor MAN & WIFE, Matt Cimber's HE & SHE is another money-spinning marriage manual for the big screen that packed them in back in 1970. All these years later it's deadly dull and pointless.
The gimmick of course was to present explicit sex in feature length form at Adult Cinemas, to horny fans previously relegated to watching strictly softcore movies or at lesser (16mm) locations perhaps collections of stag loops. For me, the earlier diet was so far superior to this junk it's a shame people were bamboozled into spending their hard-earned bucks just on the off-chance of seeing "in & out" footage.
HE & SHE is mainly bait & switch, as the lion's share of the sex action is shot from softcore angles and is either simulated sex or might as well be. After a dull seven-minute lecture by the idiotic host (pipe in hand), the wall-to-wall sex begins with a young couple demonstrating on a round bed (that revolves later on).
Endless padding and S.O.L.I. (semi-obligatory lyrical interludes, a '60s horror) footage depict the couple's romance pre-marriage. She's attractive and he has a big cock, but the sex is boring. A full 46 minutes of the nearly 1-hour running time have elapsed before fellatio is presented, and ultimately the amount of explicit content is so brief it hardly justifies the movie's hardcore classification. Prior to that, the heroine giving him a hand job is perhaps the movie's most arousing sequence, and strictly softcore.
Narrator unwisely makes commands rather than suggestions to spice up the audience's love life, for example: "Pretend you're an uncivilized caveman type -take your wife forcibly!". He also insists on pronouncing it "fell-at-ee-oh" with a hard t sound -coming off as an ignoramus rather than expert.
For camp followers of the "so-bad-its-good" school, an idiotic montage purporting to depict on screen the mental fantasies of the participants includes a little girl sitting on daddy's lap, getting spanked by mommy and daddy in turn, as supposedly her adult incarnation achieves orgasm. Not sick, just stupid, as is the rest of the movie.
