The week in TV: Doc Martin; Cuffs; The Great Pottery Throw Down; The Hunt

7 November 2015 11:00 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The all too watchable Doc Martin wraps up another series, Brighton welcomes cops and robbers, and the BBC shows there’s more to ovens than buns

Doc Martin ITV | ITV Player

Cuffs BBC1 | iPlayer

The Great Pottery Throw Down BBC2 | iPlayer

The Hunt BBC1 | iPlayer

Doc Martin represents one of my guiltier pleasures, in that I watch it in what I think of as my time “off”, freed from doing the serious important note-taking shtick or being asked to struggle professionally to fathom the enduring appeal of Downton. The Big Bang Theory, The Wright Stuff, reruns of Jonathan Creek or Endeavour – all are just-for-me equivalents of warm mismatched socks, a hot-water bottle and burnt bubbling cheap cheese on toast. Bliss.

King Captain Moron is PC Joe, who in this final series episode managed to louse up in every way imaginable

Critiqued as the Beeb’s answer to The Bill, Cuffs is in fact much better. »

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here 2015 rumours: Who's entering the jungle?

6 October 2015 5:01 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

It feels like only yesterday that Gemma Collins was crying mascara stained tears while complaining of contracting malaria - but this year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here is now just a mere month away.

Last year's series saw Carl Fogarty crowned King of the Jungle. But which stars will be enduring the Australian kangaroo anus-eating adventures on the ITV show this year? Here's the rumoured line-up so far:

Stephanie Davis

Who? Former Hollyoaks actress who was recently axed due to being "unfit to work because of alcohol consumption".

The rumour: The 22-year-old is reportedly "hot property" as a number of reality shows try to sign her up, according to The Mirror's unnamed insider. The star - who played Sinead O'Conner for five years in the Channel 4 soap - is no stranger to TV competitions, previously taking part in Over the Rainbow - a BBC One talent »

This Wright Stuff caller didn't mince his words over #piggate - and Matthew Wright was not amused

21 September 2015 5:32 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

A caller on The Wright Stuff got quite the reaction when he brought up #piggate this morning (September 21).

Matthew Wright was hosting a phone-in when a caller named Dan decided to mention the extraordinary allegation that David Cameron put a "private part" in a dead pig's mouth when he was a student at Oxford University.

...and here's one very good reason to leave #piggate discussion to Twitter pic.twitter.com/oaa1ZCZ5CM

During a discussion about Jeremy Corbyn on the show, Dan was asked by Wright whether he thought Labour members would potentially leave the party to join the Liberal Democrats.

Dan answered: "Well I think you've also got this issue of the Prime Minister putting his cock in a dead pig's mouth."

However, Wright immediately got irate with the caller.

Hollyoaks turns 20: What happened to the original cast from 1995?

1 September 2015 4:01 PM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Holly birthday, Happyoaks! Sorry, let's try that again. Happy birthday, Hollyoaks! That's better.

It's often written off as the runt of the soap litter, but we're rather affectionate towards Hollyoaks. Surprisingly, it's not only survived but is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary this autumn. It now boasts 50 regulars and a faster pace than any other soap, but can you believe that Hollyoaks once focused on the adventures of only seven main characters?

Launching on Channel 4 in October 1995 with just one episode per week, Hollyoaks gradually earned a place in viewers' hearts as it followed the tangled lives and torrid loves of Kurt, Jambo, Louise, Maddie, Natasha, Dawn and Tony. So where are Chester's magnificent seven now?

Jeremy Edwards (Kurt)

Ex-model Jeremy Edwards' character Kurt Benson was Hollyoaks' original king of cool, known for his love of his motorbikes, music and the local ladies. Kurt eventually settled »

Love Island 2005: What happened to winner Jayne Middlemiss? Or love god Lee Sharpe? We find out!

10 June 2015 11:45 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Remember the first ever Love Island with its seemingly clueless single celebrities constantly bickering on a tumultuous and stormy (literally and metaphorically) Fijian island?

Even the show's co-hosts Kelly Brook and Patrick Kielty were baying for one another's blood when Kielty decided to declare during one live show that Brook had previously dated contestant Paul Danan.

Other memorable highlights included Abi Titmuss becoming more and more enraged as Fran Cosgrave repeatedly referred to her as Vanessa Feltz, swiftly followed by a tipsy and uncouth Rebecca Loos letting rip.

The series aired almost exactly a decade ago, so we found ourselves wondering - whatever happened to eventual winner Jayne Middlemiss? And the Love Island love god that was Lee Sharpe?

As the new non-celebrity series currently enjoys its ITV2 revival, we find out what the 12 star contestants have gone on to do since their 2005 stint below:

Bend It Like Beckham: Where are the cast of the 2002 box office hit now?

22 March 2015 2:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Cast your minds back to 2002 - a time when Pop Idols didn't need to have The X Factor, Fifty Shades of Grey were just colours on a paint sampler chart and David Beckham was a mere international superstar rather than global megastar.

Bend It Like Beckham, with a modest estimated budget of £3.7 million, opened that same year and became a critical and commercial success - breaking box office records and scoring BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, as well as making household names of many of its stars.

As the cast continues preparing for the West End stage adaptation of Gurinder Chadha's screen hit ahead of previews on May 15, find out what the movie's ensemble cast went on to achieve - including who is coming back for the musical...

"I hope you die." Those are the words Joan Pistorius recalled saying to her son Martin, who she believed to be a complete vegetable, the victim of a mysterious illness that struck just before his teens. He was as good as dead, doctors told her. He just wouldn't die. But Martin heard her. Martin heard everything because he wasn't unconscious as medical professionals believed him to be, but very much awake, trapped in a living nightmare that went on and on for over a decade.
