Jason Momoa says new Conan the Barbarian 'a reboot not a remake'

Jason Momoa says his new interpretation of fantasy hero Conan bears no relation to Arnold Schwarzenegger's iconic portrayal.

The Governator played the warrior in 1982's Conan the Barbarian and its 1984 follow-up Conan the Destroyer, with both becoming cult classics of the sword-and-sorcery genre. In the 90s, we've also seen Ralf Moeller - another former bodybuilder - playing the character on TV in Conan: The Adventurer.

But it's Schwarzenegger the fans remember most, from that bygone era of fantasy films that also includes The Beastmaster, Deathstalker, Krull, Red Sonja (in which the actor played Lord Kalidor) and Masters of the Universe.

Momoa says there's no intention to follow Arnie's earlier Conan movies. He told Total Film: "I don't really think it's filling his shoes. We're not remaking it - it's a reboot of the franchise in the vein of Bond or Batman. With no disrespect to Arnold, I haven't seen »
