The short film Lamb written by Emma Freeman is a heart touching film about friendship, poverty and love. It is no surprise it won best screen play, best original score and first prize at tropfest in 2002.The duration of the film is only seven minutes but those seven minutes cover all the topics brilliantly.
The main characters in the short film are a young boy and his father alongside their pet dog and the last living animal on their farm which is a lamb. The family lives on a farm in Australia in a very sandy dry area.
The family is very poor and struggle to have any food put on their table. Their house is very small and dark and their farm is very plain as they only have one lamb left on their farm.
The young boy in the film is blind and he uses a rope to walk around outside. At the end of this rope is his lamb. The boy loves this lamb and treats he treats him like he one of his friends. This shows friendship comes in all different shapes, sizes and species.
The acting and camera work in the film is exquisite. The lighting in the film is dark and this emphasises the poverty and hard life the family has. The close up shot on their food really shows that they can only eat the bare minimum . The crescendo in the end of the film fits in brilliantly and the background music adds a nice touch.
The only negatives I would have is that there could of been a little bit more dialogue in the script but besides from that I thought the short film was excellent.
Near the end of the film the father is faced with a difficult
