Army game
5 March 2005 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

This game really should have been made a movie, you spend more time watching cut scenes than playing the actual game it seems sometimes. However Kessen 2 is a really enjoyable game. For those of you who have played and enjoyed Romance of the three kingdoms games then this is basically a smaller shorter simpler version. Its a kind of role play game except with army's. This does however mean that unlike the ROTK games you follow a set story and cant conquer territory's and do your own thing. In this game you follow the story, then take part in a battle, and continue doing this story/battle thing throughout the game. But it is not repetitive. You can take control of commanders in battle and use their skills and magic to inflict massive damage on the enemy, but don't think this will be like a huge massive army game and a dynasty warriors style game. When you control your commander you cant fight man to man with enemy troops amidst the battle. Whenever you approach other troops they seem to stop fighting and walk away from your commander, when you attack enemy troops they fall over and get up nd walk away from you so don't get any Ideas, you can only do your commander ability. The battles are great although recently made dated by Rome Total war, something like 500 troops can be on screen at once all fighting. And the fighting looks real also unlike the dynasty warriors style battles where they just stand around and attack once. The game control are really simple and may look daunting in the tutorial but are really easy. As for the story think of it as a Hollywood version of the romance of the three kingdoms book. Lots of changes have been made. The story goes that Liu Bei and his lover Dio chan rule their kingdom humbly. Liu Bei is attacked by rebels but it rescued by his neighbor Cao Cao. During their celebrations Cao Cao and Liuy Bei have their fortunes read. No one understands the fortunes, i guess its just a symbolic thing but Dio Chan finds out what Cao Caos fortune is. In order to find out Cao Cao attacks Liu Beis kingdom to capture Dio Chan. Lui Bei, and his generals Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Mei Sannaig who never existed in the three kingdoms book and also Zhang Feis three daughters. But Dio Chan is captured and the game begins. You must recapture Dio Chan and take over China in the Progress.
