Jon Berg and Geoff Johns are riding high. The two men, whose job is to oversee the DC film universe for Warner Bros., are basking in the glow of the critical and commercial success of “Wonder Woman.” Berg is a veteran producer whose credits include “Elf” and “Out of Time,” while Johns is deeply enmeshed in DC lore, having written for the likes of “Green Lantern” and “Aquaman” in addition to guiding the company’s television efforts.

They spoke with Variety about what’s next for “Wonder Woman,” their reaction to the poor reviews for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” and why there will be more female superheroes and villains in upcoming DC films.

‘The Leftovers’: The 7 Filmmakers That Made It One of Television’s Best Directed Series

31 May 2017 8:43 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The end is finally upon us. “The Leftovers” airs its final episode this Sunday on HBO, and with it comes the close of one of television’s all-time great drama series. Over the course of its three-season run, “The Leftovers” has earned acclaim for Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, as well as the ensemble cast, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to this series without spotlighting the men and women behind the camera.

The Leftovers” and its point-of-view storytelling always allowed different directors to leave their mark on the series. Through memorable sequences and shots, these seven directors made “The Leftovers” an emotionally visceral and downright spiritual experience. It’s safe to say there won’t be another series like it for some time, but television is in good hands as long as these filmmakers are guiding it.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 Blu-Ray Release Date And Featurettes Revealed

17 May 2017 9:28 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Although DC’s Legends of Tomorrow certainly won over many viewers with its first season, it could be argued that it really started to live up to its potential in the second. Sure, Vandal Savage certainly made for a formidable adversary and it was cool to see the time traveling series utilize beloved characters such as Jonah Hex, but seeing as how this is a team-up show, it only made sense that a cadre of villains unite to confound the Waverider crew.

We are, of course, speaking of the Legion of Doom. No, it wasn’t quite the eclectic cabal you might remember from the old Super Friends cartoons, but rather, a lineup that better fit with what the Arrowverse had already established: the Reverse-Flash, Malcolm Merlyn, Damien Darhk and Captain Cold. And, should you be remotely familiar with this world, you’d know how fearsome the guys making up that lot are individually, »

Albert Einstein, Comedy Icon? 9 Examples of How Film and TV Depict His Lighter Side

25 April 2017 9:42 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

The legacy of Albert Einstein cannot be overstated — even when we take the scientist’s accomplishments for granted, he’s one of our planet’s most famous pop culture figures, recognizable across generations. The way he’s been depicted on screen has ranged from well-researched takes on the man’s life, such as Nat Geo Channel’s new anthology series “Genius,” premiering today, to, shall we say, somewhat more out-there fare.

Below are some of the most notable examples we found featuring the great scientist depicted in a less-than-serious state. What’s interesting about looking at all of these examples together is how on the one hand, Einstein as an icon has been utilized for the sake of comedy for decades now. But when film or TV choose to engage with the reality of the man himself, »

All Eyez on Me Trailer: The Untold Story Behind Tupac's Legacy

6 April 2017 11:47 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With the June 16 release date just a few months away, CodeBlack Entertainment has debuted a new trailer for the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me. This sneak peek comes just one day before the late rapper will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. This biopic has certainly had its ups and downs through the development process, but the final product could end up being one of the most talked-about movies of the year, centering on the iconic rapper, who would have turned 46 years old on the exact day this biopic will be released.

We first reported on this Tupac biopic way back in 2011, when Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven) signed on to direct, but he eventually parted ways with the project. John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood) signed on to direct in 2014, but he left a year later, with Carl Franklin (Out of Time »

Time After Time Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Out of Time

13 March 2017 10:45 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Picking up the morning after the two-hour premiere ended, Time After Time Season 1 Episode 3 gives us a beautifully mundane snapshot of a morning in the life of our newly modernized Jack the Ripper.

Showering, picking out clothes and accessories, figuring out the microwave, watching the news, and killing the apartment's other occupant when he returns home from a business trip before returning to the kitchen to eat his breakfast burrito.

I did wonder after the premiere how Stevenson was going to continue his lifestyle once the $15,000 he got for his pawned pocket-watch ran out.

Apparently, picking victims for their real estate and wardrobe is part of his cunning scheme.

When I met you, I must admit I was first drawn to your beauty... and then it was your kindness that emerged as your most luminous feature. But now I see that you are the sum of many parts, with your mind leading the way. »

When the Death of Hawkman miniseries was originally announced, it was billed as Hawkman/Adam Strange: Out of Time before being rechristened as what we now know it to be. It stands to reason that the change was made to boost sales, although it risked spoiling the endgame.

Not long ago, we too wondered whether DC would pull the trigger on one of its oldest heroes and, as of today, we can confirm that Hawkman is no more. Well, at least in this incarnation (more on that in a moment).

In short, the Thanagarian warrior met his end while heroically sacrificing himself in battle in order to kill Despero. Unfortunately for him, the final pages revealed that Despero fully regenerated before the intergalactic despot proclaimed this isn’t the end by any stretch of the imagination. »
