Horatio Caine, a former homicide detective, heads a group of investigators who work crimes amid the steamy, tropical surroundings and cultural crossroads of Miami. His team includes Calleigh Duquesne, a bilingual Southern beauty with a specialty in ballistics; Tim Speedle, a cocky yet disarming investigator who is well connected on the street, and Eric Delko, an underwater recovery expert who knows all the twists and turns of the Florida waterways. Rounding out the team is Alexx Woods, the no-nonsense, know-it-all coroner. And, after Speedle is killed in Action, Former Patrolman Ryan Wolfe joins the team. Together, these investigators collect and analyze the evidence to solve the crimes and to vindicate those who often cannot speak for themselves -- the victims. Written by

Did You Know?
In real-life, the Miami-Dade Police Department's crime scene processing unit is called the "Crime Scene Investigations Bureau (CSIB)", and unlike the television show, MDPD's CSIB technicians do not conduct laboratory testing. Miami-Dade Police Department has a separate Bureau that operates the Miami-Dade Crime Lab. Also, the CSIBs are not detectives, and most present day applicants are surprised to discover that the CSIBs do not perform most of the tasks depicted on the series. For example, they do not interview suspects, they do not write or execute search warrants, and they do not make arrests. In real-life, they are directed around the scenes by the detectives and supervisors, not the other way around. Detectives are commissioned police officers (sworn personnel). CSIBs are civilian personnel, not sworn, and do not have the same arrest powers as police officers. However, they are very skilled technicians, and are a component of the police response to crime. We see the CSI's constantly ask the detectives working with them to put out APB's (All Points Bulletins) or BOLOs (Be On the Look Out) to bring suspects and witnesses in. When found MDPD just walk up to people and place them in the squad car, taking them to the station for the CSI's to interview even though it's pretty clear they didn't want to come. If there is no probable cause for an arrest or an active arrest warrant, the police can't make you go anywhere against your will. Once in a while, a wealthy or educated person will assert this and ask a lawyer to be present but this is rare. See more

You don't have to touch somebody to shoot 'em.
