Suicide Squad Spinoffs Planned for Joker and Captain Boomerang?

24 May 2016 7:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

We still have just over three months until Suicide Squad hits theaters, but there have already been numerous reports about Warner Bros. prepping several different projects based on this upcoming movie. Back in March, a report surfaced that Warner Bros. wants writer-director David Ayer back for Suicide Squad 2, along with Will Smith as Deadshot and presumably the rest of the main cast. That report claimed that shooting could start in early 2017, but that was never confirmed. Just last week, it was confirmed that a Harley Quinn spinoff is moving forward with Margot Robbie reprising her role in a movie that would also include female DC characters like Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. Today we have yet another report that claims Warner Bros. is delving even deeper into Suicide Squad by developing two more spinoffs based on The Joker (Jared Leto) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).

8 Female Characters We Really Want To See In The Harley Quinn Movie

18 May 2016 11:26 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Seeing how much of a fan favourite Harley Quinn is, it’s surprising that it has taken DC so long to get the character on the big screen. She’ll finally make her belated cinematic debut in this August’s Suicide Squad though, and it seems that DC are keen to make up for lost time, as they’ve already announced that a spinoff movie based around Margot Robbie’s character is in the works.

The movie will also apparently feature other prominent female characters from DC comics, though no names have been announced just yet. Two who seem likely are Katana and Enchantress, Harley’s Task Force X teammates who will be played by Karen Fukuhara and Cara Delevingne, respectively.

16 May 2016 6:51 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

After many years of animated, comic book and video game appearances, Harley Quinn is finally making her theatrical debut this August in Suicide Squad. It was expected that she would survive the events of that movie and return, but today brought the news that Warner Bros is developing a Harley Quinn-centered spinoff movie, which will see Margot Robbie reprising the clownish psychopath on screen and producing off camera. However, Harley won’t be the only star of this movie, as other female DC heroes and villains will be major players. Aside from Batgirl and the Birds of Prey being mentioned as possibilities, the original report didn’t offer any clues about the rest of this project’s cast. Harley Quinn Movie Is Happening, May Include Batgirl and Birds of Prey

16 May 2016 2:00 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Now that Warner Bros. has successfully launched their DC Extended Universe with the blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the studio's next installment will focus on a group of nefarious villains known as the Suicide Squad, which hits theaters on August 5. Part of that villainous ensemble is Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, a character which the studio is doubling down on by developing a spinoff. Margot Robbie is attached to both star in and produce the untitled movie, which won't be a solo endeavor, but focuses on a number of other DC female heroes and villains such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey.

While Batgirl and the Birds of Prey haven't been confirmed for this project yet, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that these characters have surfaced from their sources. There is also a writer attached to develop the project, and while the scribe's identity was not revealed, the site »

Harley Quinn Movie in Development From DC

16 May 2016 1:23 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

DC Comics is ready to move on to other projects to expand its cinematic universe announcing the development of a Harley Quinn spin-off movie starring Margot Robbie, that will be used as a platform for other DC female heroes and villains to shine.

Even though Suicide Squad hasn't made its debut, the studios are counting on Robbie’s depiction of Harley Quinn to win fans over and make this movie a success. With Batman V Superman not being the hit Warner Bros. and DC wanted there is a lot banking on Suicide Squad. With this move, maybe DC can have a measure of success with the popularity of the Gotham City Sirens with Harley teamed with Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

Hollywood Reporter is even throwing around Birds of Prey and hear it from a nerd now, that’s not Harleen’s team yo. Anyway this is the minimal details we can provide on this project. »

Harley Quinn movie in the works at Warner Bros

16 May 2016 1:15 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Warner Bros is adding a Harley Quinn-led movie, starring Margot Robbie, to its DC slate. Expect Batgirl to appear too...

The antics of Jared Leto’s method acting aside, most of the attention with regards the upcoming Suicide Squad movie has centred on the big screen debut of the character Harley Quinn. Comfortably one of the most popular modern Batman nemeses, Harley Quinn is being played by Margot Robbie in the new movie, which is due in August.

We already knew that Robbie was set to reprise the role in Suicide Squad 2, that Warner Bros is cooking up. But now we also learn that a Harley Quinn movie is also in development.

This would star Robbie once again, but also, it wouldn’t be a straight Harley Quinn solo project. Rather, it’ll also introduce a bunch of other female heroes and villains to the DC movie universe. »

Harley Quinn Spinoff Movie in the Works -- But She Won't Be Alone

16 May 2016 1:12 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

The DC Extended Universe seems to grow more interesting and immense with each passing day. It was crazy enough when they decided that their second film would be a Batman v Superman film with its eyes set towards the Justice League, but they went even further and went for a Suicide Squad flick as their third entry in the franchise.

We've had a few trailers for the villain teamup film, and while the jury is still out on whether or not the movie is any good, WB certainly seems to have some confidence in it. According to THR, they have so much confidence in it -- and Margot Robbie, the actress who is bringing Harley Quinn to life -- that they're even going so far as to develop a Harley Quinn-centric film.

The outlet states that Robbie will be reprising the role of the fan-favorite psychopath in an untitled spinoff film, »

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will get her own spinoff movie

16 May 2016 1:10 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We’re still about three months away from the release of Suicide Squad, but Warner Bros. apparently has a lot of confidence in the property and its female star, and are already prepping a spinoff film for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

The news comes from THR, who claim that the spinoff won’t just feature the iconic and beloved anti-heroine, but rather “would focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains.”

Their sources have thrown around names like Batgirl and Birds of Prey – meaning this could even shape up to be a Birds of Prey/Gotham Sirens movie featuring the likes of Batgirl (who, remember, has already been cast; Jena Malone was cut from the theatrical version of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but is expected to debut in the film’s upcoming “Ultimate Cut” home release), Huntress and Black Canary, versus Harley, Poison Ivy and Catwoman. »

Margot Robbie to Star in Harley Quinn Movie With More Female DC Characters: Report

16 May 2016 1:07 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Based on all the buzz surrounding upcoming DC villains team-up flick "Suicide Squad," it makes sense that sequels would eventually follow. But one character in particular has already so seized audiences' imaginations that studio Warner Bros. reportedly wants to build a film specifically around her, while also highlighting other female heroes and villains from the comics-verse.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie is currently developing a spinoff starring her "Suicide Squad" alter ego, Harley Quinn, though it won't exactly be a Quinn solo flick. Instead, THR says that the project would "focus on several of DC's female heroes and villains," including rumored participants like Batgirl and the Birds of Prey.

A script is already in the works, with a female writer, though THR's report says that details about the project are so shrouded in secrecy that not only is the plot being kept heavily under wraps, but not even the screenwriter's name is known. »

Borys Kit must have known it’s almost my birthday, because he got me an early present when he broke the news today that Warner Bros. is developing a Harley Quinn movie for Margot Robbie. It does not surprise me that they are moving quickly to nail down an ongoing relationship with Robbie, because everything I’ve heard about Suicide Squad from people working on and around the movie is that she absolutely owns the movie. I’ve been asked about the differences between my reporting on the reshoots for the film and Devin Faraci’s reporting, and I think we’re not really reporting different things. He said he heard the reshoots were to make the film funnier, saying every joke in the original cut had already been used in the trailer. What I heard was that the additional photography was a result of Warner telling director David Ayer »

Warner Bros. must really like what they've seen from Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in the early cuts of David Ayer's upcoming Suicide Squad because they seem very keen on bringing her back to the big screen much sooner than you would expect. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that WB is in the very early stages of developing a spin-off film for Robbie's Harley Quinn, however, unlike most spin-offs, this one will not be a solo feature. The untitled project will instead shift the focus to a handful of DC Comics' finest female heroes & villains, and while details are extremely scarce at the moment, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey have been two of the more prominent names rumored to be involved in some capacity.  The yet-to-be titled project is said to be the brainchild of Margot Robbie, who after landing and researching the part of Harley Quinn, »

Harley Quinn has been a staple in DC Comics staple since she was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series, and this August, she’s finally making her theatrical debut in Suicide Squad, played by Margot Robbie. Because the actress signed a multi-picture contract, it was expected that we would see her again in the DC Extended Universe, like perhaps in Suicide Squad 2 or the solo Batman movie. However, it’s just been reported that a Harley Quinn spinoff movie is in the works, but she won’t be the only major DC character headlining it. While Harley Quinn will be one of the main stars in this unnamed movie, The Hollywood Reporter states this would not be a solo feature. News surfaces a few months ahead of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, where the actress is poised to make her hotly-anticipated debut as Harleen Frances Quinzel. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are developing a new standalone movie featuring an all-star cast of female DC heroes and villains with Margot Robbie attached to reprise her role of Harley Quinn from this year's "Suicide Squad".

Robbie will also produce the film which will feature Quinn, Batgirl and the other Birds of Prey. Who will be considered the lead opposite Robbie is still unknown though the suggestion of Poison Ivy has been thrown about in one trade - could this be a "Harley and Ivy"-style deal.

Robbie has already garnered attention for her performance despite the film not opening until August. She also has "The Legend of Tarzan" on the way, that film opens in July. Reports also indicate she's the one that got this project moving, hiring a female writer to work with her on the concept and presenting it to Warner Bros.
