Bad booking and bad match quality sink this faster then the Titanic.
13 June 2010 | by See all my reviews

King Of The Ring 1999 had its moments, no doubt about that, but Vince Russo's presence is obviously felt here with the needless over-booking. The main event was great, but we never really did discover who was behind the briefcase incident. I also didn't agree with the King Of The Ring winner, because Billy Gunn was a hack who got by with the help of others who were more talented.

Quarter Final Match

Hardcore Holly vs. X-Pac. Nothing overly horrible, but it just seemed to fill a time gap and that, while X-Pac was limited at the time. Pac advances due to Holly being an idiot and using a chair.

1 1/2 /5

Terry Taylor is in the back with Holly, and Holly says we play by his rules. Okay then, next.

Quarter Final Match

Big Show Vs Kane. Show gets a nice pop, Kane does too. Crowd seems firmly on Show's side. Not as bad as you may think, but nothing very good either. It's plodding and rather silly, with a silly ending. Kane wins due to a chair-shot.

Vince McMahon informs us that Shane McMahon will not be competing tonight.

Quarter Final Match.

Ken Shamrock Vs Billy Gunn. Shamrock had recently turned face again, and did the whole internal injury gimmick. Better than it should have been, but it's certainly no great shakes. Gunn advances due to Shamrock being unable to compete any longer.

1 1/2 /5

Chyna says she always dreamed of being a princess, but tonight she'll be a queen|A drug addict you mean?|

Quarter Final Match.

Chyna Vs Road Dogg. Horrible match here, with Road Dogg laughably getting his ass kicked most of the match. Over-booking galore here, with Dogg out-smarting Chyna by using a cup for his nuts. Pump Handle slam finishes this one.

The Rock cuts one of his usual funny promo's on The Undertaker.

#1 Contender's match.

The Brood Vs The Hardy Boyz. Very short, but nothing less than awesome for the time it got. Great high-flying spots, and Edge's spear in mid-air was sick!. Hardy's win due to a miscommunication between Gangrel and Edge.

Vince says he will find a suitable replacement.

Semi Final Match.

Kane Vs Billy Gunn. Mediocre like most of this pay per view. They didn't have a good flow and Show turns heel for a short period and screws Kane.

1 1/2 /5

X-Pac and Road Dog cut a promo on how they have to battle, despite they are best friends.

Semi Final Match.

Road Dogg Vs X-Pac. Wouldn't it make more sense for The Dogg to go over here?. Crowd is dead and rightfully so, as this didn't amount to anything. X-Pac hits the X-Factor to advance.

1 1/2 /5

WWF Title Match.

The Rock Vs The Undertaker|C|. BIG pop for The Rock. Quite an exciting brawl actually, I liked the touch of The Rock almost winning it in the 1st few seconds. I always enjoyed the style of brawling at the crowd at this period, and the two had great chemistry. Taker wins due to screw jobs.

King Of The Ring Final.

Billy Gunn Vs X-Pac. Average to say the least, and having Gunn winning personally made me ill, because he doesn't have the talent. Gunn wins much to the dismay of me.

Vince's partner is Steve Blackman, but when it's revealed Shane was fooling us all along, HBK comes out and orders Shane to compete.

Ladder Match for the CEO of the company.

Steve Austin Vs The McMahons

Austin gets a pop you just don't hear now a-days. It's not brilliant, but it's a fun ass-whopping for the Mcmahon's and seeing them get it is always fun. Austin does his usual fun brawling, and had the crowd in the palm of his hands. McMahons take back control of the company, unfortunately it was never revealed who pulled the case up.

Bottom line. I didn't enjoy this show really, aside from a couple of bouts. Russo didn't stay much longer after this, and thank god for that. Not really recommended.
