Actor best known as the haughty department store supervisor Captain Peacock in the TV comedy Are You Being Served?
The actor Frank Thornton, who has died aged 92, had a flair for comedy derived from the subtle craftsmanship of classical stage work. However, he will be best remembered for his longstanding characters in two popular BBC television comedy series – the sniffily priggish Captain Peacock in Are You Being Served? and the pompous retired policeman Herbert "Truly" Truelove, in Roy Clarke's Last of the Summer Wine.
Robertson Hare, the great Whitehall farceur, told him: "You'll never do any good until you're 40." And, said Thornton, "he was quite right." In the event, he was 51 when David Croft, producer of another long-running British staple, Dad's Army, remembered the tall, long-faced actor from another engagement and decided to cast him as the dapper floor-walker in charge of shop assistants played by Mollie Sugden, Wendy Richard, »

There's a new man in the frame for the reboot of The Crow. And that man is James McAvoy...
On paper, a cinematic reboot of The Crow is hardly the kind of project to get people over-excited. Personally though, I look at it the same way as I do the RoboCop reboot: sure, the original is great and it doesn’t necessarily need rebooting, but it’s hard to argue that a new reboot is going to ruin the original any more than the number of shoddy sequels that have been released since.
It's been some time since The Crow reboot was last discussed, and at one point, Mark Wahlberg was being mentioned as a potential lead. However, nothing seemed to come of that. Now though, there's a new name in the frame to take on the role of Eric Draven (so far most »

I honestly forgot this film was even happening, but, despite my poor memory, Relativity Media hasn’t given up on their reboot of The Crow.
Bloody Disgusting broke the news a while back that Mark Wahlberg was being eyed for the film, but luckily that casting never happened. Now the guys at Bd are telling us Relativity is looking to James McAvoy to take on the role of Eric Draven.
There’s no doubt McAvoy is a better actor than Wahlberg, and would bring a great deal of depth to the tortured soul that is Draven, but I still question whether this film is even needed. Didn’t Brandon Lee and director Alex Proyas nail this character the first time around?
F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) is still attached to direct from a script by Jesse Wigutow (It Runs in the Family), based on James O’Barr’s comic. »

Scarlett Johansson thinks she was 'super-sexualised' when she began her acting career. The 'Hitchcock' actress thinks she was unfairly marked out as a blonde 'bombshell' just because she was prepared to show off her voluptuous figure, but she insists she is a far more complex person than her sexy persona suggests. She said: 'I think any woman who is curvy and wears a gown to an event is, like super-sexualised. At the time I was only 18, 19. I was young. I've always been curvy. It runs in the family. Throw on an evening frock and all of a sudden it's like 'bombshell!'.' Scarlett - now 28 - added the attention came at a particularly difficult time for »

"I got married when I was young and it was incredibly romantic and I liked being married, actually," she says. "But it is different. It's hard to put into words. To me, being in a functioning relationship doesn't mean you have to be married… I never think about marriage. Is that weird? The only time I ever think about it is when people ask me, 'Would I get married again?'"
She also reveals that marriage in general is "not important" to her, and that she isn't making baby plans anytime soon.
