Disney Channel’s "Elena of Avalor" Debuting July 22 Featuring Tons of Latino Talent

Constance Marie (“The George Lopez Show”), Lou Diamond Phillips, Danny Trejo, Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”), Ivonne Coll, Tituss Burgess, Ana Ortiz and Hector Elizondo are just some of the guest stars of Disney Channel’s new animated series, “Elena of Avalor.” Newcomer Aimee Carrero will voice the title character with Jenna Ortega ("Stuck in the Middle") playing her younger sister. The Latino talent extends to the soundtrack with Gaby Moreno, Latin Grammy Award winner for Best New Artist, performing the theme song and other music in the new Disney Channel show premiering Friday, July 22. Lucie Arnaz: Network Executives Still ‘Don’t Care’ About Diversity

The Paley Center for Media honored the contributions of hispanic Americans to the television landscape, for the first time, at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan on Wednesday night.

The night hit the rewind button on American television to 1950, when network executives at CBS told Lucille Ball that a show about a spunky redhead married to a Cuban band leader Desi Arnaz wasn’t believable. Undeterred, Arnaz put Ball into his act, and toured the country. Eventually, CBS brass got on board.

When executives wanted to shoot the show in New York on kinescope, Arnaz, who wanted to base the show in Los Angeles, again pushed back. He suggested three cameras, a live audience and a show shot on film. CBS reluctantly agreed and the result was “I Love Lucy,” a smash hit that pulled in more than 60 million viewers, invented the re-run and set the new standard for how situational »

Television mega-fans gathered Sunday night to honor icons John Stamos, Debbie Allen and Norman Lear for their contributions to history, both on and off the screen at the first TV Land Icon Awards. Hosted by George Lopez, the event took a playful and touching look back at the careers that have helped to change the face of television.

Honored with the Timeless Icon Award for his extensive career, John Stamos was joined by his co-stars and friends for the evening. “He’s had the spectrum of a career that a lot of performers dream of having, and I’m so proud of him,” said “Full House” co-star Dave Coulier.

Netflix has released the final trailer for “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s” second season, and Fox has set a premiere date for”MasterChef’s” seventh season, in today’s TV news round-up . . .

Netflix‘s final trailer for Season 2 of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” features the titular character finalizing her efforts to “Kimmy-ify” New York City through vibrant color revamps — and doing so with great enthusiasm, of course.

The trailer marks the 11th for “Kimmy’s” second season; the sophomore run of the Emmy-nominated sitcom has been promoted with the release of 10 previous trailers, each customized to a different social-media platform.

Season 2 will pick up shortly after the conclusion of the first season with Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) in job search mode, Titus (Tituss Burgess) dealing with the appearance of his ex-wife and Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) rediscovering her roots. All 13 episodes will premiere on Netflix on April 15.

'Sharknado 4' Gets Gary Busey as Tara Reid's Dad

Syfy and The Asylum announced today that Ian Ziering will slay again in Sharknado 4 (working title), reprising his role as shark-fighting hero Fin Shepard, while Tara Reid is set to return as April Wexler to reveal the outcome of the fan-voted #AprilLives or #AprilDies social campaign. The fourth addition to the hit global franchise also sees the return of David Hasselhoff as Gil Shepard and Ryan Newman as Claudia Shepard.

Somewhat amazingly, Gary Busey has yet to appear in a Sharknado motion picture. That gross oversight will be rectified when the film vet/reality-tv personality plays dad to Tara Reid in Sharknado 4.

Dave Mirra, BMX Superstar and Former MTV Host, Dies of Apparent Suicide

BMX bike superstar Dave Mirra, who also hosted MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules” challenge, has died of an apparent suicide.

The 41 year-old was found dead in his truck in North Carolina on Thursday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to law enforcement officials.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

Mirra hosted “The Challenge” on MTV from 2004 to 2005 as well as being the subject of the “Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX” video game series. Mirra also guest starred on an episode the “George Lopez” show in 2004.

The decorated athlete medaled in the X Games every year from its inception in 1995 to 2008, holding a total of 24 medals, which was the record at one point.
