The Latino talent extends to the soundtrack with Gaby Moreno, Latin Grammy Award winner for Best New Artist, performing the theme song and other music in the new Disney Channel show premiering Friday, July 22. The Paley Center for Media honored the contributions of hispanic Americans to the television landscape, for the first time, at Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan on Wednesday night.
The night hit the rewind button on American television to 1950, when network executives at CBS told Lucille Ball that a show about a spunky redhead married to a Cuban band leader Desi Arnaz wasn’t believable. Undeterred, Arnaz put Ball into his act, and toured the country. Eventually, CBS brass got on board.
When executives wanted to shoot the show in New York on kinescope, Arnaz, who wanted to base the show in Los Angeles, again pushed back. He suggested three cameras, a live audience and a show shot on film. Television mega-fans gathered Sunday night to honor icons John Stamos, Debbie Allen and Norman Lear for their contributions to history, both on and off the screen at the first TV Land Icon Awards. Hosted by George Lopez, the event took a playful and touching look back at the careers that have helped to change the face of television.
Honored with the Timeless Icon Award for his extensive career, John Stamos was joined by his co-stars and friends for the evening. “He’s had the spectrum of a career that a lot of performers dream of having, and I’m so proud of him,” said “Full House” co-star Dave Coulier.

Netflix has released the final trailer for “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s” second season, and Fox has set a premiere date for”MasterChef’s” seventh season, in today’s TV news round-up . . .
Netflix‘s final trailer for Season 2 of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” features the titular character finalizing her efforts to “Kimmy-ify” New York City through vibrant color revamps — and doing so with great enthusiasm, of course.
The trailer marks the 11th for “Kimmy’s” second season; the sophomore run of the Emmy-nominated sitcom has been promoted with the release of 10 previous trailers, each customized to a different social-media platform.
Season 2 will pick up shortly after the conclusion of the first season with Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) in job search mode, Titus (Tituss Burgess) dealing with the appearance of his ex-wife and Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) rediscovering her roots. All 13 episodes will premiere on Netflix on April 15.
