Storyline

The Australian version of the British elimination quiz. Six contestants begin by making a bid of up to $500 that they will start the game with. The contestant with the highest bid is immediately "shafted" (eliminated), becoming the first to hear Red Symons say to them the show's catch-cry, "You've been shafted." The contestant with the second highest bid begins the first round by choosing one of four categories, and each player then bids an amount out of what they have that they will stake on each question they answer. After a number of questions are asked, the final question of the round is a "half question" - the contestants hear the first part of the question, then make a bid from the money they have at that point. The contestant with the highest bid hears the rest of the question and then has to answer it - the amount they bid gets added to their total if they answer correctly, or removed from it if their answer is incorrect. The contestant with the most money after the ... Written by Allister Coots

A short lived game show that got shafted.
8 February 2015 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

There was a lot that went wrong with this show. Red Symons who is replicating his personality from Hey, Hey it's Saturday as the miserable judge of Red Faces, takes great delight as the game show host who pulls a lever to sink contestants through a hole eliminating them one by one i.e. "shafting" contestants.

Shafted was based on a short lived UK game show with a similar concept. Unlike the British show, the Australian version of Shafted lasted slightly longer with the UK version lasting only 4 episodes. The Australian version lasted from 11 February 2002 to 5 April 2002, although the show was critically derided throughout its time of air.

The UK and Australian version of Shafted both share one thing in common, and both of them have earned their respective spots as the worst ever game shows to appear on television.

Thankfully this show was shafted from the air following dismal reviews and ratings. Good Riddance.

1/10.
